Good Evening,
Today has been an interestingly uneventful day. I
took a typing proficiency test at my place of work and found out that,
when I want to, I can type about 47 words a minute with errors and 42
words a minute without. Not that bad says me but I’d like to improve my
typing skills even more.
Go Me!
Right now, I’m kicking back, relaxing, and staying out of this asthma
triggering heat. I was out there earlier and it was like breathing in
hot steam even then. I can imagine what it’s like now during the
historically hottest part of the day. Thank Goddess Fer Air Conditioners….
I did a lot of laundry these past few days. Anyone that knows me, knows I do it by hand, so you can guess how tired I am right now. In addition to that, I’m cleaning my room up (*gasps of shock*) a quadrant at a time. I have the area by the TV decontaminated and plan on tackling the section under my bed, and the section by the computer stand after I finish this diary. Then I’m going to tackle the laundry soaking in the bath tub after that. It’s not as bad as before with only two loads but I’m loathe to do the jeans. Those things hurt your hands when you wring them out.
I’ll be so glad when they finally fix the machines downstairs. They
took their time in fixing it but there were workmen and a brand new set
of machines down there when a few people peeked in to see what was going on. My question is: How long is it going to take for the druggies to break it for change again once the maintenance get them working? My other question is: will it take almost two years for it to be fixed the next time they do get broken?
I’m sick of lugging my laundry back and forth to and from the bath tub.
While it does give me plenty of exercise (I’m as strong as an Ox) it’s still painstaking and Draconian. I like using machines and would love it if ours could stay working for more than five minutes. Then it would only take about two hours or so to do my laundry as opposed to two days like it does now. Geeze…
I’m just adding this to my list of things to make sure I have in working order once I get a place of my own. I’d like a working washer and dryer that actually cleans clothes. One that doesn’t ‘magically’ leave crack vials in your socks for you to step on when you get dressed in the morning. Silly druggies…>:(
I think I might go down to the Tavern this weekend. It’s been pretty
boring up here and I’d like to see a lot of my old friends from where I
used to work. It will be quite pleasant to get away from this neighborhood
even if only for a few hours.
Still, it’s pretty funny seeing me of all people in a Tavern given that I don’t drink.
I’ve been itching to write some fanfic but my mind has been
completely gooey these past few months. Stress is supposed to be the great
creative muse of all, so why can’t I seem to think of anything other than
reptilian brained stories? I have one story in the TR2070 section of my
site that I keep trying to finish up but egads, the things that come out of my head on it. They’d be enough to put an insomniac coffee drinking crack addict to sleep. In the meantime, I’m going to work on some of the other stories and commentaries to see what may become of them.
I did find something interesting on one of my web searches this morning before I left out. I found two sites of musicians I really like listening to. Fusion Andina (Andean Fusion), and Junior Brown are both very prominent in my mp3 collection and are on my list of artists I’d like to have my computer 100% free of as I buy their CDs. With Junior Brown, I have one of his CDs but most of the songs on there, while good, are not the ones I wanted. I have to buy all 10+ years of his musical career or a best of album, whichever comes first. I’ve watched him since I was little though and have lots of fond PBS-ing memories of the ‘Man in the Funny
Straw Hat’ as I used to refer to him when I saw him on Austin City Limits.
With Fusion Andina, its a different story. I wouldn’t have known about them if I hadn’t actively searched up Andean music on Audio Galaxy. I think I downloaded every song that had anything to do with them or had their name attached to it. This interest in them has a great deal to do with two gentleman I met downtown one night when I was
shirking my Midterm exam (November 2001) responsibilities for a few hours with
some good stress relieving walking by the water.
I went downtown to the harbor and bought Rockapellas
Don’t Tell Me You Do album to contribute to the Rockapella 100% goal for my poor computer. While I was walking back to go home, I heard this ethereal music floating on the air. It was as though the entire boardwalk were floating above the clouds and everything was completely peaceful. I look over and there are these two dudes playing Andean music. Now I’ve always had a love for just about any kind of music and a major advocate of the musical arts but these guys seriously took the cake. This music was the best thing I had ever heard performed live (sorry Tori!) and they were doing this for donations and down at Harborplace.
I sat down and didn’t move for a few hours, the music was so good.
Then when they took a break, I went onto the ship in dock at the time, the
Brasil. After getting through Post 9-11 security and checking my bag and ID
with the attractive sailor, I went to the topdeck. Even from there, I could
hear their music, specifically the long pan pipes with their deep and mellow
sounds traveling on the air. Again, that peaceful feeling overwhelmed me and I retrieved my bag and ID and went back to listen to them play some more. They seemed to be able to draw people in to listen to them, including one rude ignorance of a person who was so obviously angling for their collection jar, that it was pathetic.
It would have been even more pathetic if he had tried anything because the rather large (six feet four or so) guy playing the guitar, myself, and several of the biggest guys I’ve ever seen in this city, were all ready to pounce on him if he tried anything.
He finally left and with him, the tension that was thick on the air. By this time the sun was setting and the sky was a beautiful mixture of purples and oranges, which is unusual for this Mid-Atlantic City. The air began to cool a bit from the days unusual heat (80 degrees in November) which along with the celestial light show, only contributed to the music. It was as though the whole world seemed to be molding itself to the emotional overtones of the music, which by this time was back to a melancholy kick.
To cut a long story short LOL, the name of their band is Aymara Star, and they seriously rock! If you’re interested in buying one of their CDs, please e-mail
me and we’ll discuss it. I’m not their manager or anything but I don’t have permission to link to their e-mail account directly and would rather act as a buffer against moron e-mails and spambots for them.
A lot of things are in the news today but I’m too tired to read the web right now. I think I’m just going to get started on my room again.
