KaliTimes Growing Lunacy

I Knit, therefore I am. There’s other stuff involved as well but it’s too boring to mention…

Rose Tyler Scarf Redux

Posted by KTC on 17 October, 2007

Y’know…I think the BBC ought to find out just what the specifics of that pattern are. This one post regarding the “Rose Tyler Scarf” has gotten more hits than any of the other 400+ blog entries I’ve made in the shortest amount of time.

In an early effort at aide, I appealed to the demi-gods at Who Knits on LJ in the hopes that someone had something. Before I could follow the suggestions given there, several good people responded to the post with suggestions for patterns…

It’s kind of ironic too. Just before I got the new influx of comments for this post, I saw the self same scarf (I’m sure of it) on Inspector Lynley Mysteries. The victim in the show, Emily Proctor (not THAT one), had it on when she was being chased in the woods in the episode Chinese Walls.

You know you’ve got it bad when you’re noticing a scarf that flashed for all of five seconds in a darkened picture of a scene shot at night in a blurry chase sequence. As far as I could tell it was the scarf and if it wasn’t then it was a really good likeness.

I’ve got my hands tucked into knitting a matching hat for the Fall Multicolor/Black scarf I finally managed to finish this past Monday in the Park just north of the Washington Monument downtown. Such a peaceful atmosphere seemed to suit my concentration and allowed me to keep my focus on finishing the scarf with only a few minor errors. I don’t considered them bad mistakes but it wasn’t what I intended for the pattern. Still, it’s a nice scarf and I’m going to enjoy wearing it with the hat.

This hat I’m making is my first attempt at k2p2 ribbing and so far so good. I’ve put around 5cm of ribbing at the base of the hat and I’m now into the straight on knitting in the round part. I’m hoping for the hat to look similar to these in construction only black and Fall Multicolor worsted weight plain acrylic yarn with a wider band of the FM and a few more varigations in the overall design.

I was a bit nervous about the gloves I wanted to make to match the hat and scarf but after doing this, I feel more confident. Now just how I’m going to make a pair of gloves in the round on a pair of 16 inch circulars…er I think I’m going to have to knit them somehow in straight fashion and then stitch them together. It’s too bad too, I like knitting in the round now.

Maybe I’ll make them fingerless. Then I won’t have to worry about being specific about contours. I’d only have to worry about making the ribbed stich at the wrist and then k1p1 or k2p2 for the rest.

I’m actually keeping my fingers crossed this week for Miss Marple to air. On top of enjoying a good knitting mystery, I’m hoping, by some odd quirk of nature, that the Richard E. Grant episode will air. Sorry, but that man makes me go into full bodied blush mode. :p

Err, I’d better get back at it. I’m not even remotely sleepy right now despite being up all night. I want to make the most of this energy.
