It’s weird. Over the years, I’ve considered myself close to a number of people but I’ve noticed things changing as surely as I have. People I once considered close and as dear to me as my own life are now, seemingly, distant strangers. In constrast to this, I’ve been building new relationships which, with the perspective of a more advanced maturity, have been growing into deeper and seemingly more lasting friendships.
I could sit here and use the old “one is silver and the other gold” adage, but it doesn’t really apply. I am simply no longer as close to some as I used to be and, as much as I still love them, it’s just not there anymore.
Now, to Bethesda. Talk about a fun experience. Normally Dr. Needles does my microdialysis and liposuction but this time around, the dreaded Dr. Snark did it. There was enough ham to feed a Spam nation in that room during the proceedure.
I really can’t emphasis how much I love it there. It’s a really fun place to be. If I could find a way to get down there, reliably, on a daily basis, you’d never get me out of there. Even with the one hundred mile round trip distance from my home to the NIH, I’d still do it.
Eeek, come to think of it. I’m only here at the Library now to e-mail volunteer positions and look up medical studies at the NIH, I can’t be wasting time on blog entries. Unfortunately.

I’ve arrived for my second Inpatient visit at the NIH. All is well. I’m a bit off though.
Last night/this morning, I had a dream that I was present at both the death of my best friend from childhood and my paternal uncle. Both died as a result of burns and smoke inhalation in massive fires in both 1988 and 2002 respectively.
I tried to save them but nothing I did seemed to happen the way I wanted it to. When I tried running into the buildings to save them, the doors wouldn’t open or the flames would erupt in intensity to the point where I was knocked back as though explosives had gone off. When I tried dialing the emergency number, the operator would only laugh in my ear and say that they’d send someone out eventually.
Obviously, I didn’t get much sleep last night as a result.
In fact, I have a few minutes until the next phase of my stay here. I think I’ll try for a quick nap and, hopefully, I won’t have a repeat of last nights stuff.
