I’ve been reading a lot of religious articles lately and I’m currently on the Religious Society of Friends AKA Quakers. I do a lot of this stuff now. I’ve never felt a religious inclination in my actions but, in the spirit of egalitarianism, I’ve often felt at odds with a lot of societies honorific trappings.
To be honest, the whole notion of it sticks in my throat when I have to say it. When people try to brainwash their children into calling me Miss or Ms, I immediately correct them and say either call me by my first name or my last but don’t put that title ahead of it. I am no ones owner and have no desire to be called such. Nor do I want to have to have any associated word pass my lips when I address another person. It’s just never seemed right to me.
