New Year, New Stuff

Some changes are afoot here. I’m going to be deleting some things, expanding on others, streamlining a few things, while creating some new content.

First the new stuff. I’ve been fascinated with the German language for some time and I’ve been on and off attempting to teach myself this language since I was ten years old. I am finally at the point where I feel comfortable (Read: Brave) enough to make attempts at posting in German and English on a separate blog. I am specifically separating the language blog from this one so as to keep me from backsliding into English when things get rough or I forget a word. I am, effectively, being hard on myself.

The name of the blog is IchbineineTomate’s Practice Blog and I am behind on my posts thus far. I need to allocate time in my day to do the dual language posting.

Onto the deletions and also expansions. For some time now, I’ve maintained the RIDigitalFic InsaneJournal under the premise that it was my story blog. In truth it has become my story tomb and refuge. I don’t post my stories elsewhere because I have a “safe harbor” in which to anchor when I’m feeling particularly low in self-esteem regarding my writing abilities. I may not be the best writer out there but I’m also not the worst. I won’t improve my skills hiding my stories in a remote corner of the Internet behind F-lock. Some stories that have/had promise have been stagnating while others either fizzled out or never got a healthy start because I’m too afraid to put myself out there. That changes this year. RIDigitalFic is going. Any stories on there will be polished and posted to story sites, any fragments will be worked on before being posted, and the journal is going bye bye.

More on expansions: I have been neglecting my YouTube channel greatly. While it isn’t the end of the world that I’m not posting endless videos on the growth rate of plants in my Aerogarden, I did promise to do more on YouTube and a promise is a promise. In truth, my channel will likely be a lot of different things. I’ll try to keep a general theme but I’m not making promises. A few of the things I am interested in are Knitting, Crocheting, Writing, Reading, Gardening, Doctor Who, etc. So, you can expect something in the realm of those topics. The funny thing is, I’m not doing this for the views. Rather, I’m doing it to create something artistically viable. Hopefully, I’ll get a garden plot this year so I can move beyond my room for filming locations. Yays!

Also hoping to get a sewing machine as I’m interested in taking that up again. The Brown Battle Beast was not the right fit for me and went back to another family member. I’m looking more for something that’s compact and computerized. All in good time.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have rather a lot of crocheting and knitting to do. Until the next time, have a safe and fantastic journey around the Sun. Take care, my friends. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Odds and Ends

I am fifty-eight days into this particular garden’s growth. Not bad, eh? I’m expecting the peppers to arrive at any moment now. I vigorously shake the plant daily and check for signs of fruiting development. So far, no luck but I live in hope.

Further along in my daily journey is my progress with my WIPs. Yesterday, I did something I thought I’d never do. I finally put the fringe on the Sidewalk Shawl I made back in October. Yeah. I even used Knit Picks Diadem yarn to do it. Double yeah. I was cringing the entire time I made it but, I must say, it looks lovely. I am afraid to wear it now. Regardless of my feelings on this project, I can now officially mark it off as completed with no trace of guilt about its status.

Now, onto some Knitting. I’ve dusted off the gift I was making for the Maternal Parental at the start of the year. Mommy Socks Junior are slowly making progress using the Two at a time method of knitting. I’m not going to put up any deadline for this because, it seems, that’s just asking for a roadblock to come blundering into my progress. So, instead, I will focus on the pleasantries of knitting and enjoy myself in the process rather than try racing against time.

Aside from this, I’ve been baking and cooking. I’ve been baking bread and I’ve also been experimenting with one of Maangchi’s recipes (YouTube) for Dak-kalguksu.  I regret to inform you that the soup was so delicious that I was unable to get a good picture of it prior to it being decimated by our ravenous hunger. However, I did manage to get a picture of the bread. Not that it was any less flavorful, just that it came out of a near 400F oven and needed to cool off first before anyone could eat it.

Though, if you’d like to see a picture of the unrolled noodle dough, have at it.

Ice Queen 101– Lessons in Cold

Perhaps this is a cold thing to do but I no longer have enough emotionally invested to care.

Prior to this year, I’ve been willing, nay, eager to gift things I’ve knitted or crocheted to people I considered friends and significant others gratis. I haven’t asked anything of them other than that they give me a place to send said gift once it is finished. Despite repeatedly putting my divestment of said items on hold by swearing they were coming for it themselves, in person, almost no one showed up. When I asked for an address/PO Box to send this growing accumulation of items, save for a few, all I got were the sound of crickets.

Now, I have put people on hold who were willing to pay for said items or who needed items more. I did it out of love and concern for the people I thought were my friends. Well, 2017 is a new year. I have been slowly giving away the items I’ve made. Just today, I gave away two very nicely made Fisherman’s wool hats and a Fisherman’s wool scarf I made for someone in April 2013. Yes, you read that right. I made it in 2013 and despite several attempts on my part to get it shipped out, with the response being to hold it until an obscure future date of visitation arrives, no one has come to get it or given me an address or PO Box to send it to.

So, it is gone. I just gave it all away today. I’m sick of living with the virtual clutter of a failed relationship’s pieces in the form of completed works overflowing my finished projects box. This is my tangible effort at moving on.

For this year, as far as Knitting and Crocheting are concerned, I’m going to focus on charities, select friends/family, and myself.

Autumnal Clearing

Currently my room looks like a Hurricane dropped chaos upon it. I am in the process of minimizing my possessions even further. I have cleared parts of my closet of boxes that haven’t been cleared in almost ten years. It is so empty in there now. There’s an echo in parts of my room that is spooky.

While clearing the shelf in my closet, I managed to find this little nugget of sunshine in a dust covered box, hidden under a plethora of old pen pal letters from decades gone by. I got it in 1995, brand new, for the 20th anniversary. I’m sitting on the fence about selling it. I saw one on a site in Mint condition going for $166USD and the non-mint averaging out to $35 for much worse wear and tear than my copy has.

All this stuff is going to be gone soon enough. With the exception of a few items, the rest is going out into the recycling/garbage.

The oppressive heat has not been kind to myself or my plants. I’m still struggling to breathe and have been put on stronger medications for the Asthma. Even more sad, most of my plants died in the heat event we just went through. Ten plants in total are now pining for the Fjords. I has a true sad. Some of those plants, I had from the early part of the 21st century.

The survivors are:

Sansevieria (Snake Plant) (Oldest of my plants, 1997)

Ananas comosus (The Pineapples)

Solanum lycopersicum (Mega Cherry Tomato Plants in the Aerogarden)

Chlorophytum comosum (Spider Plant)

Perhaps this loss is for the best.

For too long, my focus has been on so many things. Knitting and Crocheting, my plants, Autodidactic pursuits, volunteering, trying to maintain my health as well as other pursuits. I’ve had so many irons in the fire, perhaps my focus isn’t where it should have been all this time? Perhaps I would do well to remember the lesson of the oxygen mask?

Thanks for reading. Have a great day.

Moving On

Ended a seventeen year long toxic friendship with my ex-boyfriend. Yay!

Helping The Maternal Parental quit smoking again. Double Yay!

Letting go of associated negativity from these subjects. Treble Yay! Squee!

Instead, I am going to focus on the positives in my life. I have multiple wonderful friends and family. I have varied wonderful talents. I have a wave of green plants growing in my room right now that will, hopefully, grow to full maturity and provide me with a bounty of fruit and herbs. I’m well medicated and fed. I have food, clothing, shelter, etc. I’m Literate in at least one language with the capacity to learn more.

In short, life is pretty good.

I Got It!!!!!

A sneak peak of the new Aerogarden of Serendipity’s box…and my Kindle. Yes, I read a lot. Don’t judge. wlEmoticon-rollingonthefloorlaughing.png

I just got this today, 26 February. I’ll be setting it up on or before 13 March 2016. I’m waiting, not so patiently, for the tomatoes to ripen in the old Ultra LED garden before I can begin procedures to clean it out one last time. From there, it will go to its new home with a good local friend.

I have my heating vents closed (it’s Winter here) so the tomatoes will have the proper temperature to ripen in. I can only top off the reservoir with icy cold water to bring the ambient temperature in the vessel down to acceptable levels. Even so, two are already showing signs of ripening as I type this. The rest of the larger ones are beginning to turn whitish, while the smaller green ones grow bigger by the hour.

So, for now, I’m just twiddling my thumbs waiting for these fruit to turn red. It would be a real shame if, at the end of this, I had to cut these plants down without harvesting this fruit. There’s at least thirty fruit between the two vines. Regardless of my reticence, 12 March is the cut off day for these plants and this Ultra LED.

Thanks for reading. Please, enjoy your day.
