Prune, Write, Knit, Grow

Over the past few days, I’ve been continuing the clean up effort I started regarding my blogs and journals. After more than sixteen years, I’ve finally deleted my Livejournal and Deadjournal accounts. I’ve also deleted all my old posts from my surviving InsaneJournal as they’re not really reflective of where I’d like to go in life. So, I am starting from scratch as far as the InsaneJournal is concerned. I have also added a Dreamwidth account to the mix.

I’ve also managed to write in my hand written journal for a change. That was quite the experience after so long without writing in it. Hand writing practice. It is a thing. To give you some idea of how long the stretch between entries is, the last journal entry was from August of 2016. I fully intend to keep up with my writing this time around. I want to keep a few journals. One for writing, one for self improvement, at least one for languages, and one for personal stuff. That’s not counting the online journals and blogs.

I have a cousin in gestation. My cousin with whom I share a birthday is expecting a baby on or around our mutual birthday. So, I am going into crafting overdrive in making her a plethora of items. My intentions are to make at least two (maybe more) baby Flax sweaters, the Lacy Chevrons Baby Blanket, a toy of some kind, and, perhaps, a second crocheted blanket. In addition to this, if I have the time, I’ll finish the never collected Soft Purple Baby Blanket I was making in 2014.

In the realm of growing, my tomatoes are growing and maturing in the Aerogarden. Plant two may need to be cut back as it is getting leggy but Plant One is growing quite well. It even has a number of maturing fruit growing on it right now. My other plants, the Snake plants, Spider plants, and Pineapple are all doing excellently as well. I’m not sure when or if the Pineapple will grow a Pineapple fruit but it is now nearly three feet in diameter.

The one thing I would love this year that didn’t occur last year would be for me to get the garden plot I signed up for. I really want to grow different fruits and vegetables not only for my own household but for family members, friends, and people in need of fresh produce. At present, I have to take public transportation to the nearest market about twenty minutes from my home as the bus rides. The nearest community garden is slightly closer and much less travel time. My plan is to get a wagon and hike it home once the produce starts growing. Either that or save a lot of carfare for cabs, which in truth might be safer given that the roads near where I live and near the garden site don’t have sidewalks.

Though, at this point, all of this is mere speculation on a fantasy. I have no garden excepting my potted plants and Aerogarden.

I need to wake up so I can get back to knitting. I’ve been quite ill over this past few weeks with various colds/flus etc. I am now, thankfully, recovering.

Now, to get into this knitting. Until the next time, have a safe and fantastic journey around the Sun. Take care, my friends. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Fostering Positivity

The few of you who know me personally are well aware that I am often brooding to the point that Eeyore would have something to say to me in response to my mood. Comparisons have been made to some cartoon from the 90s called ‘Daria’ as well as a host of other comments.

Thanks to the intervention of QueerJoe’s blogpost, I’ve decided to do something about it. I am going to dedicate myself to fostering positivity in the world. Wherever I can and whenever I can, I am going to do good works for the sake of doing good. It’s my hope that this Positivity web/chain/whatever that started with QueerJoe expands outward and encompasses as many people as are willing to participate. I hope that there are a lot of people willing to join in on the fun.

First, I am going to dive into all these unfinished projects that have been accumulating dust on my desk recently. Not only is this not good for my asthma, it’s not good for my creativity, nor my allergies, nor my sanity. So, those are out of the way ASAP.

Next, I will do a vlog. This will be the first formal “sit down” vlog I’ve done in months. So many things have happened in my life between then and now. Hopefully, this video will be cathartic and just the right balance of entertaining with educational.

Positive news about the Maternal Parental: Her eyes are in magnificent condition right now. The surgery site healed well and her glaucoma is under control with the aid of medications. She’ll be fitted for glasses within a few weeks.

Tonight will be a night of reveling in movies. I’ve got Demolition Man, Dragonslayer and The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses. Last night was Priest and Legion. Hopefully, I can overcome my shyness to actually talk about some of these movies and shows I look at in greater detail.

About the only other things happening right now are three burgeoning friendships and the rise of the Mega Cherry Tomatoes in the Aerogarden of Serendipity. The Sweet Pickle Organic Peppers died due to my overzealous application of Neem.

That’s all. Thanks for reading and have a fantastic day, Everyone!

Happy Birthday To Me

Hey, I’m almost thirty-five years old. Wow. Anyway, to the posting.

For some time now, I have been unable to sleep without a lot of effort. This has proved exhausting to my life and my schedule. So exhausting that, paradoxically, I have frequently gone days without adequate sleep. I’m not sure what has been causing this but I am hoping it will go away soon. My pdoc prescribed 50mg of diphenhydramine for this issue and…it didn’t work. There I was, in bed all night long, staring at the backs of my eyelids, wishing for some kind of intervention that would give me a good night’s rest.

I wasn’t worried about anything.

I wasn’t agitated.

I wasn’t upset.

I just couldn’t sleep for some reason.

My sleep issues had gotten to the point where they’d affected my writing abilities, my knitting and crocheting abilities, my physical health, my coordination and fine motor skills in cooking. Imagine being sleep deprived while trying to work with a sharp knife, a heated stovetop, or a boiling hot pot of water? Yeah, my lack of sleep was a detriment to myself and others after a while.

The one thing I could still do was screw up my vision to focus, barely. So, I read books: both eBooks and Treebooks in my possession until my brain didn’t want to take in more information. Once the overload was completed, I took my meds, went to bed and…after two and a half hours, fell asleep for two blocks of sleep totaling eight hours and forty seven minutes. Yay.

As of right now, I’m still more than a bit shaky but, as you can see, I am writing again. Hopefully, with more sleep and time to recover, I can work on those stories and crafting projects of mine.

Speaking of books and media. I think it’s time for another cull. I’m taking out the books with dated information, gleaning what I can from them before sending them for recycling if possible. The movies, I’m going to view them once more (the unwanted) before donating them to charity or selling them. After all, I do have a challenge on Goodreads to read at least fifty books before the end of the year. This seems like a good way to do it.

On the Aerogarden front, the Aerogarden of Serendipity continues to amaze me.

2016-03-31 10.20.12

This is representative of thirty three days of growth. I have cut all visible plants back several times and they just keep on growing like they’re Kudzu or something. The Genovese Basil is particularly scary…I mean amazing as I cut it back to nothing more than a few leaf tips less than ten days prior and it grew back in record time. It is now overtaking the “Thai” Basil, pushing aside the Mint and shading the Cilantro. I had to raise the Light hood a bit to accommodate it.

I did have to get replacements for two pods. The Chives, well, to be honest Chive, died on me. The Cilantro never sprouted. So, I am now waiting for these replacements to grow. I hope they do. My room normally smells pretty good but, right now, it smells extra lovely. It’s very fragrant and smells of Basil, Mint, and Dill.

Due to my lack of coordination, I haven’t done much in the way of crocheting. I hope to change that in the next few days as my strength returns.

Thank you for reading. Have a great evening.

Please forgive the state of this blog. I was so angry over the Picasa fiasco, that I deleted my pictures from the Google servers. I am now repopulating the images into the blog posts. Given that I’m a verbose silly person, this is going to take some time to fill the hundreds of posts I have with images in them. I do have all my pictures though, so it shouldn’t be a problem just replacing the html with the new links to images.

It’s just going to take some time.

Incidentally, I’ve decided to upload to WordPress.com directly. They’ve changed a bit since the last time I looked into hosting my images here. With a little bulk resizing, thanks to FastStone, I’ve now got 2gb of pictures down to a little under half that size. Given that I haven’t used all the photos I uploaded originally to Picasa in posts, this should be sustainable for the short term. When it gets to the point where the allotment is full, I’ll just try to make an allowance to purchase a premium account. Crying face

It’s going to be very interesting seeing if I can scrounge up the $99 per year to do this. I really love my blog though, so, I’ll have to make a way.

Shelob Lives

I was downstairs with The Maternal Parental arguing about the watching of movies when something large flickered across the carpet and under the television stand. From it’s movements, I knew it to be one of the foul creatures that serve the Dark Lord but didn’t know how to get it from under the stand to slay the beast.

The Maternal Parental laughingly suggested that it might be a cricket.

Ha.

As if Jiminy ever came in such a size and with such a movement? I knew the great evil for what it was. I sought, against all my fear, to slay the beast for the good of the Shire but it slinked away into the coat closet before I could get to it. Now, every shadow is pregnant with its memory and every sound an echo of its footfalls. I am haunted and hunted by its very presence in these hallowed halls.

I beseech you, my noble friends, come to the aid of this house in our hour of need as we are besieged by this terror.

Did I mention the second flitting shadow even larger than the first that scuttled through the kitchen? I am hoping against reason that was a simple mouse. Yet, in my steady gaze upon the other foul creature, I cannot be sure it was what I hope for it to be.

The minions of the Dark Lord grow bold in their reconnoiter of the domains of myself and the Maternal Parental.

Translation: Honking BIG SPIDERS in MY HOUSE. HALP!!!

What On Earth Was I Thinking?

So yeah, I signed up to do NaNoWriMo this year.

I haven’t a clue how to hammer together a novel. I barely have a clue how to write coherently or with proper punctuation. A fifty-thousand word goal seems out of my reach but I won’t know if I can do it unless I try. That’s all I can give is my best effort. The hilarious thing is that I have ideas popping out of my head all over the place but will any of them measure up to the word quota?

Whatever I ultimately decide to do, I am backing it up both on disk and in the cloud. I’ve had several data loss scares both personal and social reminding me to do so.

I’m also doing NaKniSweMo and at least with that, I am on somewhat familiar territory even if the scale is a bit overwhelming. I know how to knit. I know how to do the stitches required according to the pattern. Even if I’m working in hideous pink, I’m at least able to make out what I’m supposed to be doing, albeit slowly, and make progress.

Oh yeah, I did a new video (YouTube Link). Shockingly, it doesn’t feature video of the Aerogarden of Hope. In this episode, I’m reading a Richard Laymon story called Night Games. What I should be reading are my old college textbooks on writing comprehension. Instead, I’m reading Julius Caesar’s Commentaries on the Gallic Wars.

I’m going to admit to being nervous about this NaNoWriMo thing but I’m going to face it. I’ve been running from actually writing something meaningful for a long time. It’s time I stopped running away from this and achieve a writing milestone for myself.

The Aerogarden of Hope is doing well. For anyone who follows me on Instagram, you’ve seen the pictures of the jalapeno pepper plant. It’s loaded with peppers right now. So much so, that the remaining flowers are dropping off because the plant can sustain no more fruit. There must be at least thirty growing peppers right now at various stages of development.

It will be ten weeks of this garden growing in four day’s time. From there, it’ll be two more weeks before the oldest of these peppers are ready to be harvested. At least, that’s what the updated literature says.

The tomatoes…are growing a bit slower. They have flowers and all but they’re very short and not getting nearly enough light. I’m really hoping that they’ll catch up to the pepper soon.

Aside from this stuff happening, the most amazing thing ever occurred last night. The Maternal Parental and I watched several Epic Rap Battles of History videos and…she enjoyed them. We’re talking genuine joy and not merely a feigned interest.

Shocking, I know.

I was so happy she wasn’t depressingly clawing the door for cigarettes, that I wrote a thank you to the ERB twitter. If I get the energy in me, I might make them something in gratitude for making the Maternal Parental have a happy moment for the first time in a long time.

Okay, I’ve put it off for long enough. Tonight’s agenda is writing and trying to flesh out the story I’m going to do for NaNoWriMo. I can put it off no longer. It’ll be September in a few hours and that’ll mark two months before this whole thing is supposed to begin. Wish my nervous ass some excellent writing skills so I can accomplish this goal.
