Summer WIP Frogging

Apparently, I’m driven to eliminate languishing WIPs and destash my hoard of yarn. Why, I don’t know but it appears to be happening and I’m being quite cut throat, where before I was quite sentimental about my Works In Progress.

If you’re wondering why I’m making five Hobbes dolls, it is due to the fact of a promissory backlog. I promised four people Hobbes dolls as gifts and figured there was no time like the present when, on hearing that the Pharmacy Delivery Driver’s birthday was upcoming, the Maternal Parental begged me to make him a Hobbes doll in appreciation. She actually pleaded with me to put aside the work I was doing on her cardigan and get working on the Hobbes doll as soon as possible.

So, knowing that I had this backlog growing, I figured I’d eliminate them all at once. I’m currently 53% completed with this task. At this point, I can do this pattern in my sleep, which is good because I have been falling asleep at the desk while working.

Onto Villimarjatar. I initially tried to make this shawl in a sock yarn. Until I saw an episode of Fruity Knitting where Romi Hill was interviewed, I was fully prepared to knit eight hundred yards into my shawl using said yarn despite being unhappy with the look of my progress. Let’s hope that the new yarn I’ll be using works more effectively.

The reclaimed sock yarn will be going into two projects. One cake will go into the Syncopation socks. The other cake will join my first attempt at Doublefun socks. I’ve been looking forward to making the Doublefun pattern for some time now. Some of the remainder may go into my take on the Find Your Fade shawl. We’ll see.

Into the destashing, one of my relatives has decided to rekindle her knitting skills and was fully prepared to go up to Joann’s to buy supplies with which to do so. I just couldn’t allow that seeing as I’ve got all this yarn and all these needles that hardly get use. So, I made her up a box that will, hopefully, make her happy.

What made me happy was, on seeing the depth and breadth of the box, the Maternal Parental decided that she wanted a batch of yarn as well. I really hope she means it this time. If they both keep at it, I’ll give them the more expensive yarns once I’ve fully divested of the less costly product. More people need to be knitting, crocheting, and weaving. That’s my philosophy.

My other philosophy is that, shock and awe, I’m moving away from acrylic. The more I work with wool and other natural fibers, the more I want to. Also, there is the environment to consider. Wool and natural fibers are…natural and biodegradable. As much as I like being the Empress of Economy, acrylic costs the environment in the long run even if it saves me money in the short term. So, in future, if I do buy acrylic yarn, it’ll most likely be a colorful wig project someone commissioned me for. Which is to say…not very likely.

About the only other thing on my RADAR is a story idea creeping on the periphery of my conscious thoughts. I dream it just fine but when I wake, the dream is gone from my mind like someone erased it. I’m determined to bang something out on this keyboard over the next few days. So, one way or another, something is getting into my OO.o Writer.

Until the next time, have a safe and fantastic journey around the Sun. Take care, my friends. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Autumnal Clearing

Currently my room looks like a Hurricane dropped chaos upon it. I am in the process of minimizing my possessions even further. I have cleared parts of my closet of boxes that haven’t been cleared in almost ten years. It is so empty in there now. There’s an echo in parts of my room that is spooky.

While clearing the shelf in my closet, I managed to find this little nugget of sunshine in a dust covered box, hidden under a plethora of old pen pal letters from decades gone by. I got it in 1995, brand new, for the 20th anniversary. I’m sitting on the fence about selling it. I saw one on a site in Mint condition going for $166USD and the non-mint averaging out to $35 for much worse wear and tear than my copy has.

2016-08-20 15.29.40

All this stuff is going to be gone soon enough. With the exception of a few items, the rest is going out into the recycling/garbage.

The oppressive heat has not been kind to myself or my plants. I’m still struggling to breathe and have been put on stronger medications for the Asthma. Even more sad, most of my plants died in the heat event we just went through. Ten plants in total are now pining for the Fjords. I has a true sad. Some of those plants, I had from the early part of the 21st century.

The survivors are:

Sansevieria (Snake Plant) (Oldest of my plants, 1997)

Ananas comosus (The Pineapples)

Solanum lycopersicum (Mega Cherry Tomato Plants in the Aerogarden)

Chlorophytum comosum (Spider Plant)

Perhaps this loss is for the best.

For too long, my focus has been on so many things. Knitting and Crocheting, my plants, Autodidactic pursuits, volunteering, trying to maintain my health as well as other pursuits. I’ve had so many irons in the fire, perhaps my focus isn’t where it should have been all this time? Perhaps I would do well to remember the lesson of the oxygen mask?

Thanks for reading. Have a great day.

My Personal Marathons

As noted in my previous post, I’ve been quite busy recently. Really, it’s all just my subterfuge to get away from doing the leg work I should be doing for NaNoWriMo. I’m intensely nervous about making a flaming Olympus Mons of crap writing, so I’ve been avoiding getting ready by diving into projects.

Well, I’ve messed up my “go to” crocheting project enough that I have to frog it and start over and I have an unfinished knitting project sitting on my soon to be decommissioned desk. As of this afternoon, I’ve successfully finished a project (Amigurumi Adipose) I’ve been putting off since 2012 and I feel it’s now time to buckle down and get my mental state prepared for NaNoWriMo.

Hello, World. What think you of my Adipose Baby? It took me only a few hours to do despite all the procrastination I put forth in making it. I remember a time when I was putting forth an effort at fighting this tendency in myself. I really must reignite the war against my bad habits.

At least I didn’t procrastinate on this any further than this. I still have enough time to come up with something passable to write by November.

After eleven years, this rickety desk is going out of my life. It is a secondhand hand-me-down from a neighbor who moved out of our previous residence who sold the Maternal Parental a love seat when we had no furniture to speak of. I’ve bad mouthed this table a lot over the years and cursed its existence but it really has been there for me as a constant presence. I’m going to miss the splinters, the near constant threat of my computer and other items crashing to the floor, the sticky drawers and all the other little things that will probably come to mind as I’m putting together this desk’s replacement.

Speaking of the replacement. I am getting a South Shore Annexe Home Office Computer Desk in Pure Black to match my bookcases, which are also South Shore. It’ll be nice having a stable desk with some space. I’m still trying to figure out how the internal stuff is going to be rearranged, as it only has one drawer, but I’m sure I’ll make it work somehow.

You see, this is the beginning of a redecorating plan for my room and, to a lesser extent, my home. If this decommissioned desk is wanted by the Maternal Parental, she’ll have a desk to sit and write at in her room. All I’ll need to do is get her a chair and floor mat. Update: She doesn’t want it. Saves me some money.

From there, I’m doing the shocking and unbelievable for me. After nearly ten years, I’m getting a bed to sleep in. I know! Shocking! I’m so used to the floor, it’s going to be so weird sleeping above that level. I’m reconciled to it though. I have everything for this endeavor picked out too, from the mattresses (Daybed with trundle) to the bedding to the pillows.

I am also getting rid of the Brown Battle Beast and its table in some manner. Even if it’s just putting it in the closet. In all honesty, I don’t use it. It’s just taking up space, collecting dust, and being a stand for various plants and my lamp (which is also going out of here). I don’t have all the parts to it, so selling it is not a likely scenario but if someone did make me a good offer on my circa 1950s 301a Singer Sewing Machine with table, I wouldn’t refuse.

After that is taken care of, I am going to save up and buy the Maternal Parental an Ikea sofa and two lamps she likes as a gift.

About the only other things I’m getting myself are a floor lamp and a second printer stand for my room. The floor lamp will be to replace the lamp currently sitting on the Brown Battle Beast’s table and the printer stand will be a matching one to the one currently holding the Aerogarden of Hope, only it will be for my actual printer.

Without going into too much detail… (looks up at the preceding and laughs) …there are going to be a few changes in my life over the next few years which require I rearrange things in my room and life drastically. How’s that for cryptic vagaries?

About the only other thing happening right now is Jalapeno pepper population explosion. I shook the pepper plant a few times, not really expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised today to find several peppers already developing. I know one isn’t supposed to compare children but I really wish the tomatoes would perform like this. One can only eat so many jalapenos before one gets tired of them.

That is all. Enjoy your day. Be well.

Finish It!!!

Say hello to my two newest friends. Bookcases One and Two took me less than three hours total time to assemble and, I have to say it, they’re wonderful.

In truth, I needed them because my room was a lesson in chaos. I had DVDs and Blu-rays stacked against my closet door and books stacked on a stand in one corner of my room. Now, I have organization and I love it. With the installation of the bookcases, my head feels so much clearer. Sun

Now, down to business. This doily is getting completed on or before the seventeenth. I was ill (again) with a cold and allergies and couldn’t crochet during that time. So, I’m going to spend all of tonight listening to music and crocheting. Hopefully, I’ll make some headway with the doily. If all goes well, I’ll get a wing done by the end of tonight and another done by the end of the day.

Incidentally, I found the yarn for that commission. Now all I’ve got to do is convince the intended recipient of the $35.00USD worth of the gloves. Considering the formula standard used for pricing knitted and crocheted objects, she’s getting it for cheap. Most of the people I’ve come across double the price of the yarn (assuming the crafter is acquiring it) plus time and labor. Oddly enough, no one ever wants to pay this. Crafting. It’s a labor of love. Crying face

Onto other topics. My Spring Crazy has been unleashed. I transplanted/made cuttings of my Pelargoniums and Coleus. I finally also got rid of the main Coleus pot from last year. Specifically the plants, the pot was reused for Pelargoniums. Right now, I have a sea of Pelargoniums sitting on and around my windowsills. I’m really hopeful that they’ll grow.

I know I should have done this stuff weeks ago but the bug to do it just hit me. I’m just hopeful that the Pelargoniums take root/survive the transplant shock.

One thing I cannot wait to get is a Golden Pothos plant. Hopefully, I’ll find one cheap at the supermarket before it closes its doors for good in April. Bookcase One is in a very sunny location in my room and is an ideal spot for such a plant. Though, I’d better go on the prowl for containers to prevent water getting on Bookcase One. Red rose

That’s enough whining. Now, for me to get to work. Later, Earthlings! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

I Live…

I took my first trip into the city by myself since becoming agoraphobic. Obviously, I’m writing this, so I survived. Yay!

It wasn’t as bad as my mind built it up to being. I was in a really busy area of downtown Baltimore city, surrounded by those people things, and I didn’t freak out at all. I made it to my appointment early and fulfilled my planned tasks admirably. As proven on my Instagram, I even rode the transit system all by myself.

I neglected to bring a project with me today though. Thankfully, I had my phone with its plethora of mental distractions. I learned languages and listened to music mostly during my sojourn. That was fun.

Next on my agenda is repotting some plants that desperately need repotting, continue in the knitting and crocheting saga that I have entangled myself in, clean up the disaster area also known as my room, vacuum and shampoo the carpet throughout the whole house, do the shopping for food and other sundries and ship off that which I have made already for others.

Now, for proof of my insanity: Clearly, I have lost my mind for even looking at this page when I have so many other things to do on my lists.

Speaking of insanity, I’m going to get more yarn from Knit Picks. It’s a vicious cycle, this yarn addiction is. You buy a bit and think that’s all you’ll get and before you know what’s hit you, you’re drawn in by its silky texture and cozy warmth. Then, you buy more and think you’ve got control, but you don’t. Not really. That’s when the hook is in. Oh yeah. That’s when they’ve got you. You try to shake it off and go cold turkey, then they go and offer you a $5 off promo code. So, now you’re going to spend the money you should be saving to go to the dentist on yarn. It’s a tragedy… o_O

I also ordered some reusable pie pans. I plan on making various pies with them. Right now, I’ve got a plan for turkey pot pie for the foreseeable future. I have vegetables for one, I just have to get vegetables for the second one. Mmmm, Okra… 🙂

I also ordered:

The Times of Harvey Milk (Hulu+ link)
The Princess Bride (for 1.99USD)
Spaceballs (also for 1.99USD)
Doctor Who – Series Eight (definitely NOT for 1.99USD)

I had ordered Guardians of the Galaxy but had to cancel it owing to my wanting to get the Maternal Parental something nice.

Regarding my post yesterday: So far, I haven’t gotten any of the negative responses or unfriendings I feared I’d get. Everyone has been loving and awesome. I love you all. You’re so cool. 🙂

Handwritten Journal Time

Wow, apparently, some things in my life are so inestimable, that I need to write stuff down in my sorely neglected hand written journal. It’s involving relationship potentials and, to be honest, I don’t want to hear about how some feel about things like Polyamory right now. So to my composition notebook I go. It’s wild but I haven’t had a need to write in it since 30 December 2007. I am looking forward to my chicken scratch handwriting being seen at length again. Now, I just have to find an ink pen that works…

Nothing much else has been happening in my life lately. I’ve been meeting new people, hence the need for the journal, knitting, reading, writing, crocheting and gardening. I’ve even got a bit of exercise in.

I’m apparently getting the Bissell 1623 Carpet Cleaning machine today. It was scheduled for delivery on the 12th but came from Horsham, PA, so I get it early. Yay! I’m going to get my clean on! I’m going to get my clean on! *silly dancing*

Got a little love note from Amazon to return the stuff Lasership never delivered. I was on that phone so fast, my head spun around. I had thought I’d dealt with this issue when I first got that laughable text notification saying that the package was delivered on Saturday, at the very time I was in the doorway, it was magically, invisibly, left at the front door. I got a lot of packages on Saturday. Lasership’s was not one of them. So, I sent an E-mail to them explaining the whole situation on Sunday morning. Which was why Monday morning’s e-mail came as a complete shock. I talked to a nice but hard to hear CSR and explained the situation. Hopefully, that’ll put an end to it. I am not going to pay for something I didn’t receive.

Any way you slice it, I’m mad right now. Lasership almost cost me $72.00USD. I hope I never get them delivering my packages again. From now on, I only want UPS, FedEx and the USPS to deliver stuff to me. *steam*

This post is a total trainwreck but I just have to get this morning stuff off of my mind.

Aside from all the recent trouble, my hair has been growing. I’m now at the point where I am seriously considering getting two packs of Curlformers to style my hair with using the Heatless method of many YouTube hair vloggers. It’s getting long enough to put into two pigtails, so the afro puffs are a little surfeit at this point. I am so low maintenance when it comes to hair. Read that as “Lazy” because that’s the truth. I see the Team Natural Hair Vloggers on YouTube and I feel so inept. Still, I’d better get into the habit if I want to keep my hair rather than get frustrated and cut it again.

On the pain front, I just taped my own thumb up for a suspected sprain. Go me! Seriously, It’s been really hurting these past few days and I’ve had no drive or means to get to the doctor lately. I have an appointment coming up next month, so I’ll take that opportunity to explain my delicate situation. You can imagine how this is making typing. I’m going to enjoy the respite of writing in my hand written journal after this fiasco. The Real Lifestyles of the Agoraphobic.

On the socialization front, I’ve joined two Gardening social networking sites. One is called GardenWeb and the other is called GardenStew. I like them both but, admittedly, I’ve done more on GardenStew. Both sites are valuable repositories of Horticultural information but GardenStew is more user friendly. No, I am not getting paid to say that. Wish I was. I’m starved and could do with some takeout. Anyway, my handle on both sites is “xantedeschia” if you’d like to connect. On GardenStew, I’ve got pictures up of my sorely poorly container garden in all its glory.

Okay, it’s official, I’m starving now. I’m wrapping this up by saying, I hope you all have a fantastic day. Later! 🙂

The Battle of the Bissells

1622 vs 1623 or, as I like to call it, the Battle of the Bissells, is my reference to making a mistake in purchasing the wrong deep cleaning carpet cleaner. Internationally, the color of 1623 is very much like the 1622 model and, with that as my guiding star, I purchased the Bissell 1622 from Amazon, thinking I’d get all the cleaning attachments.

Wow, am I ever glad I reread the reviews before my ability to cancel the order was up! As it turns out, the Bissell 1622 is a carpet cleaner alone, while the Bissell 1623 is in fact the same as the international version of the Powerwash Powerbrush Select.

An honest mistake that almost cost me $96.00USD. o_O

Thankfully, I saw my error just in time and canceled the order. Now, all I have to do is order the right model. It should be here inside of a week. 🙂
