I’ve Finally Found It…

My second language has finally been discovered. True, it took trepanning and a good deal of mental excavation to find it.

That language is…German. In truth, I should have known better. I did try to teach myself this language when I was ten. I have been practicing daily, about three hours per day, for thirty-seven days now. If you’d like, you can follow my progress on Duolingo. I’m now at the point where I can just barely make out what people are saying or what is written down. I definitely need to practice more if I’m going to be fluent but it is a good start.

I just need to find some Germans. Yoo hoo. Germans? Are you out there?

For that task, I’ve done the unbelievable. I’ve opened a new OKCupid account. This time around, my task isn’t really dating. It is finding a language pal/study buddy, so hopefully, I won’t have any trouble with anyone at all. Wishful thinking, I know. It is the seat of comedy but I’ve gotten rather a lot of matches to Dutch people. I don’t mind. It is a bit mentally rich carrying three languages around in my head at once in the name of politeness but you do what you do.

The friends I’ve made have gotten a hilarious chuckle out of this one. I’ve been learning a lot of German from the lyrics of Rammstein. Someone…might listen to them for more time in the day than they study on Duolingo. Angel

Those same friends suggested I expand my musical tastes, so they gave me a small listing of artists that they liked. I then combined their favorites with the Get Germanized listing of popular German music artists (YouTube Link) for later exploration. Some [who I won’t name] I really didn’t like, but others sound very good.

One group I’m going to be giving my ears next is Die Ärzte. They came up on multiple lists as highly recommended. Anyone out there have any other recommendations? Please, leave them in the comments. Smile

Aside from the above, it has been a summer of Plantar Fasciitis in both feet, crochet, strange propositions, lather, rinse, Repeat.

Until the next time, have a safe and fantastic journey around the Sun. Take care, my friends. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Consequential Clicking

Who would have thought that clicking the Add Friend button on Social Media could be so difficult? I’ve been semi-compulsively hovering my mouse over that button on my sister’s profile page for the better part of two months now. I haven’t seen her in person since 2003 and I haven’t talked with her since 2004. I’m just hoping that the subterfuge I use to keep my identity secret doesn’t dissuade her from adding me to her friends list.

In other clicking, I’m back to the Rainstorm II socks. I’ve set a deadline of this weekend to be at or near completion and, for a change, I’m not laughing about this. I actually think I can achieve this goal with the proper application of hard work. I’m trying to build up a bunch of little achievements so I feel good enough about myself that I might actually successfully complete NaNoWriMo.

Onto still more clicking, I’ve been tapping away at the keyboard with a tentative story idea. Now all that remains is to flesh out the backstory, characters, outline and any other fluff and filler that might be required for this story to come to fruition.

Still more clicking, bear with me. I’ve been…what does one call “window shopping” when one is not in a brick and mortar environment? Anyway, I’ve been looking at clothing. I’m down to one pair of pants, no thanks to the Maternal Parental bogarting my pants from me. So, I’m going to get her and myself new pants before I put barbed wire and such between her and my new stuff.

Funny thing is, I would never have known Amazon had these pants had I not logged into my old K-Mart account. When I first bought these pants, I got them from the latter and had fully intended on going back for more. Since that time, they’ve stopped selling the ones I bought. Lucky for me, Amazon and a host of other merchants now sell them for cheapish prices.

In other news, I’ve finally made my friend’s son the bear I promised.

This makes the third bear of this pattern I’ve made. I’m resting this pattern for a bit while I go do other things. I’ll come back to it eventually but, for right now, I want to finish up other projects that are long overdue or calling to me like an resounding echo.

About the only other thing happening in my life right now is the fact that I’ve lost five pounds. Now, it’s just a matter of keeping it off.

Take care, Peoples of the Sun.

Interesting Turn of Events

Several months ago, my laptop died on me. It was a Dell Inspiron 17R for the people keeping score. Luckily, I’d backed everything up and had started using my Desktop (Dell Inspiron 560 for those keeping score) by the time the laptop became problematic.

Fast forward to last night. We had a power surge/outage that lasted several minutes. By this time, I’d backed up to various Cloud services and was still in the process of saving to get a new computer. I woke up this morning to the Amber Light of Death. I’m really hoping against hope that this can be fixed by a small replacement part. Otherwise, it’ll be months before I can save up enough money to get a system that can handle my needs.

In other news, my Equality Salsa Garden of Hope is really taking off.

image

Seriously hoping that html takes. I am currently working on a tablet and cell phone for all my Internet access. Could be worse. At least I’m not completely cut off.

The Equality Salsa Garden of Hope is currently twenty-four days old. All the plants are growing in a healthy manner and I look forward to having tomatoes and jalapeño peppers in a few more weeks.

Not much else is happening here. It’s hotter than hell, so I’m pretty much staying indoors with my DVD/Blu-ray collection. Going to go downstairs in a bit to watch a marathon of Doctor Who, Marvel movies and whatever else I can pull from my media shelf.

Take care, Peoples of the Sun. 😄💚🌈

Vlog Number Two and Writer’s Block Too

Later start time = Less sleepy and no blinding flash to avoid. Yay!

Almost completely unscripted this time, I managed to get through another eleven minutes of vlogging with few problems this time.

I got a much later start than last time, so I wasn’t fighting off yawns. I didn’t have the Flash of Doom in my eyes, so I didn’t squint or avoid the camera altogether. For only my second video, I consider this a resounding success.

About the only problem I have right now is a sudden case of Writer’s Block right when I need my writing abilities the most. As of this moment, there are no writing ideas in my head. This isn’t leading to a wave of consternation as I had expected either. I’m pretty much at peace with it. You see, I know that it’s only a temporary block. I went eight years without writing, so a few days is not going to send me packing.

Yes, I can see the irony in my writing this blog post. No, it’s not the same as “Writing”. With creative writing, I have to really delve into my mind to pull the thoughts out, make them coherent and then format it for Human consumption. These blog posts, on the other hand, are rather stream of consciousness and don’t require much in the realm of thinking. It’s just my internal dialog put on display.

So, I’m going to do two things: I’m going to pick a story to read for the next vlog and I’m going to crochet until I feel the writer’s block smashing in my mind. For the story, I’m considering going with Franz Kafka. I’m not sure which of his stories I’m going to read yet but I have The Castle and the Penal Colony. I received both as gifts from my ninth grade Mathematics teacher, Mister Pardi, who is a genius who chooses to teach us lesser mortals. He’s probably one of the coolest teachers I’ve ever had actually. I don’t say that lightly.

After I do this, I am going to crochet some on the October Rust Birthday Shawl. It is, after all, getting to be late in the month. I want to have this thing completed by May.

Before I do any of this, I need breakfast and tea.

Stream of Consciousness Free Writing Exercise

I believe introductions are in order. My name nom du net is KaliTime Camaralzman or KTC for short. I have been writing on and off since my childhood and I’ve been writing online since 1999. My first forays into the writing world as an adult were mostly badly written fanfiction. Since that time, I’ve written several stories that are not fanfiction related, I just haven’t got the guts to post what I have so far or, furthermore, I haven’t got the guts to finish what I’ve started.

It mainly due to a fear of, well, what’s the opposite of a fear of failure? A fear of success? I am, in essence, afraid that someone will read my work, consider it noteworthy and expect more of the same from me. As much as I love writing, I just don’t know if I’m capable of producing more than a few somewhat good pieces. So I cringe in terror when someone asks to read my work. At least, I did until this point. This writing exercise is my effectively putting myself out there for the world to see, warts and all, so I can learn from my mistakes and, hopefully, become a more effective writer.

Earlier, I mentioned that I didn’t have the guts to post my work. I did do it with a few stories. They’re either on my story journal waiting for follow up (if they’re not complete stories) or they’re languishing on various sites across the internet where I have given permission for them to be posted or have posted them myself (as is the case with Fet). I’m really hoping that this exercise will not only improve my writing but will build my self-confidence to the point where I can accomplish my 2015 goal of doing NaNoWriMo later this year.

I’ve been trying to do it for several years but I canned my own work as not good enough. Now, I won’t bash other authors by name but I do know for certain that there is far worse out there than my writing. I am hoping to get to the point where I can become a published author.

A little about me personally: I am Agoraphobic, Atheist, Polyamorous, Pansexual and have Bipolar Disorder. In addition to the above mentioned things, I’m hoping for this writing exercise to offer me a further means of having a creative outlet for my conditions and my identifications. Specifically, I’d like to write a story featuring Polyamorous relationships. The funny thing is, the story is already in my head, I’m just afraid to put it into words out of that aforementioned fear. I am hoping to overcome that as well.

Aside from these things, I am a Knitter and Crocheter. I’m also a gardener with a fully indoor container garden. When I’m not knitting, crocheting, writing or gardening, I can often be found in my room, listening to a plethora of musical artists or watching various visual media and even reading. I’m something of an indoor firework. Well, I’d have to be given my Agoraphobic tendencies.

I am almost out of time, so I will just thank you for reading this rambling enterprise of mine. I look forward to reading your works as well.

Hello, Earthlings…

Say hello to my little friend.

No, wait.

Say hello to Kathleen’s Coffee Table Topper at seventeen rounds. This pattern has a tendency to bunch up early on, before the wings are crocheted on. It is fully round, I can assure you.

My original finish date of the 7th of March has been postponed until the 9th. I have a really bad cold on top of allergies. For those in the know of what that feels like, you can imagine what I’m going through right now. Crying face

I’m starting to feel marginally better though. With that improvement, my crochet skills have increased.

Ran across an interesting quiz on a friend’s Facebook page. It’s called the ACE Study Quiz and it measures the impact of Childhood trauma on adult health outcomes. It is featured in an NPR story about the ten questions most doctors are afraid to ask.

You just know I aced this one. /sarcasm. Actually, I got an eight out of ten on this particular quiz. Apparently, most people score a 2-4. Overachiever, I am. Smile with tongue out

I’m not up to much today. Just installing a Blu-ray burner/player in my computer and watching ALL THE DVDs and BLU-RAYS! I may also slink out to get some food. I am still in the process of replying to people. Who knew I was so darn popular? Yes, this includes you, Lotta. It’s funny, because normally, I don’t get a drop of e-mail outside of a few friends and, suddenly, I’m bombarded with a slew of correspondence from all over the world. I’m not complaining as I love talking with the people who’ve written. I just find this communication uptick interesting.

Incidentally, while out paying the Renter’s insurance, I got a possible commission for a pair of gloves. A part of me wants to make them for free but I need to pay for things. Now, if I can just find three skeins of Wine colored Superwash Cashmere Merino Wool yarn in my stash without hitting up Lion Brand, I’ll be a happy camper. Thankfully, the commission is for a woman with normal sized hands, so that’s not as much knitting as I normally have to do for myself. I could probably bust them out in a week, assuming I can find that yarn.

I got another request for a Hobbes Doll. As I do this for free, per the request of the pattern designer and the general feeling of the creator of Calvin and Hobbes, I had to temporarily decline the request until July. I should be finished with all the commissions and promised items I have in place by then. Cashy money pays bills and thus comes first while promised items to friends come second.

The clever irony in all of this is that I still haven’t made MY Winter gear and it’s almost Spring. I’m too darn self-sacrificing.

Anyway, I wish you all a pleasant and happy weekend filled with the finest everything good. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Taking Classes

Sort of…

Thank you, MIT for starting OpenCourseWare as a thing. Due to your generosity, I am able to take classes I wouldn’t normally be able to take due to the Agoraphobia. Specifically, I am taking:

Fundamentals of Biology
Introduction to Biology
Introductory Biology
Introduction to Psychology
Atomic and Optical Physics
Quantum Physics I and II
The Early Universe
Exploring Black Holes: General Relativity and Astrophysics
Engineering Mathematics: Linear Algebra and ODEs
Geometric Folding Algorithms
STEM Concept Videos
Engineering Dynamics
Chemistry Behind the Magic
Introduction to Algorithms
Probabilistic Systems Analysis and Applied Probability
Linear Algebra Recitations
Discrete Stochastic Processes
Differential Equations
Introduction to Computer Science and Programming
Introductory Quantum Mechanics II

I’m going to be very contentedly busy over the next few weeks. My computer choked several times getting the videos for the classes, but I managed it in the end. Open-mouthed smile

In addition to this, I’ve started a pair of socks. Called Rainstorm II, these are the first non-Lion Brand wool socks I’ve made. I got the yarn from Knit Picks. It’s Stroll Hand-painted in the colorway Crystal Hand-painted.

I am doing them two at a time, so that I can have a pair of socks by the end of the labor. I’m working primarily at night, though, I may make this my carrying project for when I leave the house to go on appointments. They are so soft… Smile

I’m also working on Kathleen’s Other Doily. Her Coffee Table Topper is coming along quite well.

In addition to all of that, I’m still working on Bruce’s Gloves. The good news is, I’m out of the ribbing and into the body. The bad news is, I cannot really see the black yarn at night. I mean, I can see its physical form on my table but I cannot determine definition of the yarn thread. I think it might be time to see the eye doctor.

Glaucoma and Cataracts both run in my family. So, it’s only a matter of time, I suppose, until I’m diagnosed. I’m really hoping for it to be much later in my life. Annoyed

So far, so good on the sleeping front. I have been sleeping a normal amount of hours. I’ve been getting restful sleep and no nightmares of a PTSD nature. Wow, that medication really works!

About the only things I really need to do are get back in contact with people I haven’t contacted since this whole thing began and clean my room.

The communication is coming people. Prepare yourselves. Later! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow
