Flotsam Musings

NaNo may be over but revisions are coming up and I’m no further along in my writing than the last day. I really must take some time out of my days to write a few words. I also have the other story I promised to work on to look at again. Hopefully, I will get some of this completed and or at least worked on after I finish this doll I’m working on.

Time management skills just fly out of the window when one is enamored, I suppose. The very act of concerning oneself for another person’s well being is enough to disrupt the entire process of creativity. Still, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

On to other matters before I lose my train of thought in a puddle of love.

Pictured above is the first blooming I’ve seen on the second or lesser tomato plant in the Aerogarden of Hope. Both plants are getting very large and are filling in the space where the Jalapeno pepper plant once was quite nicely. I’ve already shaken the flowers up, so I should start getting (fingers crossed) tomatoes within a few week’s time.

All the other plants are growing very well as well. I’m teetering on the brink of buying another Aerogarden so I can have fresh herbs again. I really loved that and the Aerogarden Bounty looks like such an interesting model to have. The Maternal Parental also wants a lesser model Aerogarden so she can have fresh Kale.

I finally have the yarn for Sam’s Boba Fett amigurumi doll. I hope to get to making it today after I finish Mike’s Hobbes doll.

I’ve even managed to make The Maternal Parental a hat finally.

It’s hard to tell because I have it on a purple chair but it’s in that Claret yarn she picked out ages ago for her scarf and hat set. I’ve yet to make her the matching scarf but I will do before it gets cold. Lately, we’ve been having near 60 – 70 fahrenheit days. Not much call for a hat in that kind of weather.

Much to my chagrin, I still have yet to make my own stuff for Winter. This is getting ridiculous with how long it is taking me to get this done. I have a bunch of yarn for the task, so I’ll get to it ASAP. I don’t want to be freezing cold while everyone else has scarves, hats, and gloves on.

In the meantime, back to work. Later.

The Best of Intentions

I am planning on making a toy for my friend’s kid. She likes Hippos and I’ve found what seemed to be the perfect pattern. It’s not cartoonish or outlandish. It actually looks like a Hippopotamus. Just one problem. This pattern is written very strangely. No matter how I crochet it, I keep getting the wrong counts. It’s got to be me though because others have breezed through this thing with no problems. So, unless I ask them for help, I am left frustrated by this toy pattern. I would just make her a bear but she really REALLY likes Hippos.

In other news, I am ridiculously happy lately. No, it’s nothing to do with the change in weather (I’m more a Winter fan) or the Bipolar Disorder (I’m medication compliant and stable). I am happy because I’ve been talking, daily, to a guy I met on OKCupid. I still haven’t figured out a good code name to give him for this blog yet but know that he is deeply cared about by this Netizen. This doesn’t take one iota of care away from my feelings for the Handsome Man or anyone else. It’s just expanded my heart’s capacity to cherish relationships. I’ve been catching myself smiling lately and have just been so happy. Quite a heady experience.

The Aerogarden of Hope, as I have been calling it, finally has a 100% germination rate. I peeked in on the Curly Parsley this morning and found a little seedling looking back at me. So, I’m very happy. Coincidentally, this is the new vlog. It was filmed prior to the appearance of the Curly Parsley.

The water changing/add nutrients day is two days away. I’m looking forward to finally using my siphon for something practical. I promised the Maternal Parental I’d show her how the siphon is used. It still floors me that she doesn’t know what a siphon is. I may look a video up on YouTube so she doesn’t think it Black Magic and run away from the process.

Shockingly, this is the second thing I’ve written today and the fifth thing this week. I think the Writer’s Block may finally be melting. I hope the dam bursts on it soon. I have a backlog of writing prompts and a story to work on.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to try to make use of the remaining daylight by making an attempt on this black doily.

Have a fantastic day! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Finished Billy The Bear!!!!

I actually finished him last night. It’s currently 2:04am on 1 April 2015. Billy is, as of this moment, waiting to be shipped off to the Paternal Parental along with a plethora of other gifts I put in the box at the last minute. Hopefully, he’ll get some use out of them.

Right now, I’m just knitting, watching The Avengers and waiting for that first writing assignment from WordPress. Good night, Peoples of the Sun! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Hello, Earthlings…

Say hello to my little friend.

No, wait.

Say hello to Kathleen’s Coffee Table Topper at seventeen rounds. This pattern has a tendency to bunch up early on, before the wings are crocheted on. It is fully round, I can assure you.

My original finish date of the 7th of March has been postponed until the 9th. I have a really bad cold on top of allergies. For those in the know of what that feels like, you can imagine what I’m going through right now. Crying face

I’m starting to feel marginally better though. With that improvement, my crochet skills have increased.

Ran across an interesting quiz on a friend’s Facebook page. It’s called the ACE Study Quiz and it measures the impact of Childhood trauma on adult health outcomes. It is featured in an NPR story about the ten questions most doctors are afraid to ask.

You just know I aced this one. /sarcasm. Actually, I got an eight out of ten on this particular quiz. Apparently, most people score a 2-4. Overachiever, I am. Smile with tongue out

I’m not up to much today. Just installing a Blu-ray burner/player in my computer and watching ALL THE DVDs and BLU-RAYS! I may also slink out to get some food. I am still in the process of replying to people. Who knew I was so darn popular? Yes, this includes you, Lotta. It’s funny, because normally, I don’t get a drop of e-mail outside of a few friends and, suddenly, I’m bombarded with a slew of correspondence from all over the world. I’m not complaining as I love talking with the people who’ve written. I just find this communication uptick interesting.

Incidentally, while out paying the Renter’s insurance, I got a possible commission for a pair of gloves. A part of me wants to make them for free but I need to pay for things. Now, if I can just find three skeins of Wine colored Superwash Cashmere Merino Wool yarn in my stash without hitting up Lion Brand, I’ll be a happy camper. Thankfully, the commission is for a woman with normal sized hands, so that’s not as much knitting as I normally have to do for myself. I could probably bust them out in a week, assuming I can find that yarn.

I got another request for a Hobbes Doll. As I do this for free, per the request of the pattern designer and the general feeling of the creator of Calvin and Hobbes, I had to temporarily decline the request until July. I should be finished with all the commissions and promised items I have in place by then. Cashy money pays bills and thus comes first while promised items to friends come second.

The clever irony in all of this is that I still haven’t made MY Winter gear and it’s almost Spring. I’m too darn self-sacrificing.

Anyway, I wish you all a pleasant and happy weekend filled with the finest everything good. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Finished Glücksschwein – Oink Oink The Pig!!!!!

This is what happens when I get bored. *shaking my head*

Finished Hobbes!!!!!

Consider the With A Little Help From My Friend Called Hobbes complete.

Now, I’m going back to knitting Mike’s hat. Later.

Finished Bunny Bun Bun!!!!!

I finished Bunny Bun Bun last night. I’m late in posting stuff mainly because I keep falling asleep.

To the front:

To the right:

Mooning you all ’cause he’s a rude boy:

Bunny Bun Bun was a lot of fun to create. He created quite a stir amongst my friends too. Everyone wanted one. Bunny Bun Bun himself is going to live in the Pacific Northwest and I’m going to create his hutch siblings as soon as I get the yarn to make them from everyone who requested a Best Bunny. In the interest of public disclosure, I am not charging for this. It’s not my pattern and…it’s my friends.

Next up on the agenda is the Cosmos Doily practice.

I’m making six of these things. Two for Kathleen in Olive, Two for Daniel and Christine on the occasion of their marriage in Black and two for me in Blue. Well, technically, I’m making seven. I’m starting off with a practice doily to make sure I can complete the pattern correctly. So far, it’s coming out great. I’m already on round five and I am doing well. The pattern is quickly forming. I don’t know what I’m going to do when i get to those picots though.

*sigh*

It’s always something.

I am enjoying myself immensely though. I love crafting without commission pressure.

I am getting to the point where I’ve decided I don’t need the money of that weighty commission as much as I need my sanity. I am teetering on the edge of giving the blanket away as a gift rather than charging for it. Call it my last hurrah of paid crafting. I am cancelling the hats and other requested items though. The feeling of absolute relief that just rushed through me when I wrote that decided me. I will give the blanket, for free, to the purchaser.

Remember Hut Von Mike die Schlafmütze? Remember Dark Hexagonals?

Well, they’re still sitting on my table and in my closet collecting dust. I haven’t forgotten them, Hobbes just took my attention from both and then I got the itch to crochet small stuff. As I finish each crocheted project, I’m going to complete one knitting project. Alternating work will keep my hands from cramping up and my mind from locking up. Especially using this 1.65mm hook. Yes, I know, my Magpie mind is showing.

I still haven’t made my hat, scarf and gloves set for myself. I’ll get to it, eventually.
