Flotsam Musings

NaNo may be over but revisions are coming up and I’m no further along in my writing than the last day. I really must take some time out of my days to write a few words. I also have the other story I promised to work on to look at again. Hopefully, I will get some of this completed and or at least worked on after I finish this doll I’m working on.

Time management skills just fly out of the window when one is enamored, I suppose. The very act of concerning oneself for another person’s well being is enough to disrupt the entire process of creativity. Still, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

On to other matters before I lose my train of thought in a puddle of love.

Pictured above is the first blooming I’ve seen on the second or lesser tomato plant in the Aerogarden of Hope. Both plants are getting very large and are filling in the space where the Jalapeno pepper plant once was quite nicely. I’ve already shaken the flowers up, so I should start getting (fingers crossed) tomatoes within a few week’s time.

All the other plants are growing very well as well. I’m teetering on the brink of buying another Aerogarden so I can have fresh herbs again. I really loved that and the Aerogarden Bounty looks like such an interesting model to have. The Maternal Parental also wants a lesser model Aerogarden so she can have fresh Kale.

I finally have the yarn for Sam’s Boba Fett amigurumi doll. I hope to get to making it today after I finish Mike’s Hobbes doll.

I’ve even managed to make The Maternal Parental a hat finally.

It’s hard to tell because I have it on a purple chair but it’s in that Claret yarn she picked out ages ago for her scarf and hat set. I’ve yet to make her the matching scarf but I will do before it gets cold. Lately, we’ve been having near 60 – 70 fahrenheit days. Not much call for a hat in that kind of weather.

Much to my chagrin, I still have yet to make my own stuff for Winter. This is getting ridiculous with how long it is taking me to get this done. I have a bunch of yarn for the task, so I’ll get to it ASAP. I don’t want to be freezing cold while everyone else has scarves, hats, and gloves on.

In the meantime, back to work. Later.

Say Hello To My Little Friends

As you can see, I’m making a voodoo doll…no. Just kidding. Actually, this is the as yet unfinished Birthday Buddy Bunny for my little cousin. I’m hoping to get her finished by tonight and mailed off by Saturday. I’m incredibly tired right now though. So, I may have to ship it Priority and hope it gets there on or before her birthday.

In other news, my Aerogarden has shown quite significant growth among its plants. It’s almost unrecognizable from three weeks ago. Surprised smile

The Chives haven’t changed much but everything else is shooting up quite nicely. I will admit to eating a few…or more…of the leaves off of these plants over the past few weeks. Part of it was pruning, part of it was my being hungry. That’s all about to change though.

Starting today, I am not going to do anything to the Aerogarden of Hope except give it water. I want to see how far this machine can go as far as sustaining plants. Better to find it out now with the much less fickle herbs than when I get the tomatoes and peppers sitting in the Aerogarden.

I did a vlog on the Aerogarden of Hope’s progress tonight but I’m really not happy with the quality of it. So, I’m going to shoot another video tomorrow once I’ve gotten some rest. I’ve been up the past day and a half transferring most of the media on my computer to BD-RE disks. It is exhaustive, mind numbing, boring and tiring work but someone’s got to do it. Now that some 300gb of space is free on my computer, I can relax and enjoy how much more quickly it goes. I can also take my now portable media and look at it on a Bluray player if I so desire to.

Is everyone else ready for the upgrade to Windows 10? Apparently, I am. I got a special message from Microsoft offering me the opportunity to upgrade to WinX for free. Yeah, I know. I thought it was a scam or something too but it’s apparently genuine. I guess they got sick of the people holding on to 3.1 all these years. Joke. Hopefully, it won’t be a total cluster… of a situation with the upgrade. Embarrassed smile

This is actually the first time I’m keeping up with everyone on an upgrade in Windows. Normally, I stay on an OS version for years…possibly a decade or more. Don’t ask me about Windows 98…please. Crying face

Oh yeah….confession time. I recently bought some stuff from Knit Picks. Now, given both my yarn and book diet until 2017, I’m pretty ashamed of myself right now. I was supposed to refrain from buying either of these things until January 2017. The only thing I could have sort of justified was the purchase of the Shawl Pin I got. Though, I’m giving serious thought to re-evaluating this whole Yarn diet thing. I make regular trips very close to my LYS now and it would be a shame to wait until 2017 to go there when they have such good reviews and yummy yarns. So, I think I’m going to cancel the yarn diet and keep the book diet. Party smile

Got the Maternal Parental the three part series That’s Entertainment! and it’s a combination birthday/Mother’s day gift. This is her first Bluray.

Oh man, I am so tired.

Good night, Peoples of the Sun. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Well, That Was…Interesting…

Baltimore City recently (27 April 2015) erupted into chaos. I, along with many others, sat watching it on live feeds and television, horrified by the violence. For any of you wondering, while I am from Baltimore City, I presently live in Baltimore County, so I’m well out of it. I appreciate your concerned messages though. Thank you for caring.

As far as I know, my family is okay. Thank you all for asking about them. Some were quite close to the action but stayed indoors and waited. As many of us did.

I will save the recriminations over who is ultimately responsible for this whole thing to more political and legal minds. I know what I’ve read and heard from the mouths of some though.

Moving on to other things, I am currently in the middle of doily three of the Cosmos Doily Madness. These doilies are for my friends on the occasion of their wedding…months ago. I’m hoping to give it to them by their anniversary. It should be done well before that time but, given how long it has taken me to get these done, I figured I’d give myself some leeway.

Sad news on the Health front. Doc F is leaving in July. I got a letter from him stating as much. Now, I’ve got to go get a new doctor. He was a pretty cool doctor too. I’m going to miss him. Crying face

Happy news on the health front. That Place has moved and…it moved less than a block from my Local Yarn Shop. Yep! I’ll be shopping at Cloverhill Yarn Shop from now on. I’m really looking forward to buying nice yarn when I’m finally off of my yarn diet. Don’t get me wrong. I love Knit Picks, Lion Brand, etc. but there’s something to be said about the appeal of being able to be tactile with the yarn you’re going to buy. One cannot do this when buying online. Open-mouthed smile

I’m planning on getting a butt load of Cascade Superwash 220 as well as whatever else they have that I like. I just have to get through my yarn diet which doesn’t end until 1 January 2017. I know, I’m a glutton for punishment. I love the colors and the fact that it’s Superwash yarn. I’m really looking forward to working with it. I’m also looking forward to socializing with other Knitters and Crocheters. Me…socializing. That’s so weird. Surprised smile

Okay, that’s enough rambling. Later! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Catching Up…

So…I organized most of my yarn stash. It’s getting to be unruly and uncontrollable. I have around two hundred pounds of yarn and crochet thread here. I know this because I had to lift it all.

Honest to goodness, I’m not buying anymore yarn or thread anytime soon. I really don’t have the space or the money to do it. So, for now, I’m focusing on getting my list of projects on Ravelry that I have the yarn and thread for down. That seems a noble goal.

Aside from that, I’ve finally got a darning egg and stranding guide. I predict my socks being properly fixed in the future and colorwork being done.

I’ve also gotten two new books. Yeah, I know. I said I wasn’t going to get them but I did.

One is called Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece: Custom-Color Your Favorite Fibers with Dip-Dyeing, Hand-Painting, Tie-Dyeing, and Other Creative Techniques by Gail Callahan and the other is called Think Outside The Sox: 60+ Winning Designs from the Knitter’s Magazine Contest by Elaine Rowley. I’ve flipped through both and they look very good. The patterns I saw in Think Outside the Sox look mouthwatering. I just hope I’m up to making them. I’ve got just one more book to get and this truly will be the last book I get for a while. It’s called Star Wars Crochet by Lucy Collin and that one is due to come out in May.

Last of the yarn for a while – Purchased
Last of the books for a while – May 2015.

Right now, I’m supposed to be reading Knitted Lace of Estonia by Nancy Bush but I’ve been sidetracked by the Great Search for Bluetooth Earphones. I got a pair of Arctic P311s from Amazon but they were defective in that the microphone didn’t work. How useless is that for a phone hookup? Going on hope alone, I bought a second pair in the color I actually wanted in the first place figuring lightning wouldn’t strike twice so to speak. I lucked out in that the new ones work like a charm and they’re green to match my everything. Since I can’t return the black ones without incurring a charge, I’m giving them to the Maternal Parental so she can listen to her JW programs when on the go or when at home and she doesn’t want to disturb me. The positive thing about these earphones is their battery life: 20+ hours as far as I’ve tested them.

Still haven’t finished Hut Von Mike die Schlafmütze or the Cosmos Doily Madness. I am closer to completion on the hat though, so that’s something. I’m now into the K6P2 ribbing and about three inches from closing the top. Thankfully, this is not a priority or paid project. If it were, I’d be so fired by now. LOL

Tomorrow is going to be baking day. I had a cold but it’s gone now and I had thrown my back out but the pain is lessening, so I figured I’d get something accomplished in the way of cookery before the end of the weekend. Breadworld has changed the layout of their site but this is the recipe I’m making sans raisins. However, tonight I knit. Later. 🙂

Drachenwolle and a Finished Scarf

Okay, so I have a new obsession. Drachenwolle Sockenwolle Handgefärbt in the colorway Gewitterwolken Regenbogen.

I have no idea what some of that means but I love this yarn. Google it. For pity’s sake, Google the hell out of it so you can see its wonderous loveliness! I love the other colorways and yarns as well but that particular one really caught my eye.

Lucky for me, I happen to have a good friend who is also German. I also have other very good friends who are fluent in German. I’m, hopefully, going to get help from one or more of them in ordering this yarn as soon as it becomes available again. Right, my dear, sweet, kind, noble, generous friends? 😀 😀 😀

Speaking of my friend, I’m currently knitting his hat. I’m about ten rounds into it and have plans to take it with me when next I’m out on trips around the Metropolitan area. I’m hoping to get this hat finished in a much quicker timeframe than the last one. So, hopefully, a week’s time will be more than enough knitting time for me to do this.

Oh yeah, I finished the first scarf. *fanfare*

I finished it Sunday morning, 7 December 2014 at around 12:30am/00:30. Now, I just have one more scarf in that project to do. I’m thinking of switching the yarn used from the colorway Supernova to Theatre. First, I must consult with my friend for that.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m tired. I’m going to bed now. Good night! 🙂

I Live…

I took my first trip into the city by myself since becoming agoraphobic. Obviously, I’m writing this, so I survived. Yay!

It wasn’t as bad as my mind built it up to being. I was in a really busy area of downtown Baltimore city, surrounded by those people things, and I didn’t freak out at all. I made it to my appointment early and fulfilled my planned tasks admirably. As proven on my Instagram, I even rode the transit system all by myself.

I neglected to bring a project with me today though. Thankfully, I had my phone with its plethora of mental distractions. I learned languages and listened to music mostly during my sojourn. That was fun.

Next on my agenda is repotting some plants that desperately need repotting, continue in the knitting and crocheting saga that I have entangled myself in, clean up the disaster area also known as my room, vacuum and shampoo the carpet throughout the whole house, do the shopping for food and other sundries and ship off that which I have made already for others.

Now, for proof of my insanity: Clearly, I have lost my mind for even looking at this page when I have so many other things to do on my lists.

Speaking of insanity, I’m going to get more yarn from Knit Picks. It’s a vicious cycle, this yarn addiction is. You buy a bit and think that’s all you’ll get and before you know what’s hit you, you’re drawn in by its silky texture and cozy warmth. Then, you buy more and think you’ve got control, but you don’t. Not really. That’s when the hook is in. Oh yeah. That’s when they’ve got you. You try to shake it off and go cold turkey, then they go and offer you a $5 off promo code. So, now you’re going to spend the money you should be saving to go to the dentist on yarn. It’s a tragedy… o_O

I also ordered some reusable pie pans. I plan on making various pies with them. Right now, I’ve got a plan for turkey pot pie for the foreseeable future. I have vegetables for one, I just have to get vegetables for the second one. Mmmm, Okra… 🙂

I also ordered:

The Times of Harvey Milk (Hulu+ link)
The Princess Bride (for 1.99USD)
Spaceballs (also for 1.99USD)
Doctor Who – Series Eight (definitely NOT for 1.99USD)

I had ordered Guardians of the Galaxy but had to cancel it owing to my wanting to get the Maternal Parental something nice.

Regarding my post yesterday: So far, I haven’t gotten any of the negative responses or unfriendings I feared I’d get. Everyone has been loving and awesome. I love you all. You’re so cool. 🙂

I Came Out As Polyamorous Today

Hello, World!

I mean, I haven’t exactly been secretive about it but nor have I been all “in your face” about it either. I suppose today was my happy medium between those spheres of existence.

The person I came out to was my therapist. I gave her a copy of “What Psychology Professionals Should Know About Polyamory” and I also answered any questions she had for me personally or about Polyamory in general. She seemed intrigued and receptive to learning more and not judgmental at all. I suppose time will tell with that one though.

Now that I’ve disclosed this information, I feel relieved. I didn’t like using subterfuge to mask parts of my life. Especially considering its parts that are so important to me.

On the crocheting and knitting fronts, I’ve got a few more yards to go for Ari’s scarf. I should have it done by tonight for sure. After that, I’m going to get a hat started, so I can take it out with me for a project when next I go out.

It was quite chilly today. I need to bust through these projects so I can get to making my own stuff before it gets too cold to go out. My hands were freezing today.

Oh yeah! I finally got a new thermometer! It only took me eighteen years of using the same thermometer I got from the cool Nurse at my old high school. This is the Braun Thermoscan 5 and it’s an ear thermometer, so no more “under the tongue” crap. It’s nice, fast reading and it’s easy to use, so the Maternal Parental should have no issue with taking her own temperature.

I figured after the last illness fiasco, I should get some certain items in the house. At the top of that list was an ear thermometer and a huge bottle of ibuprofen, check. Next on the list is a first aid kit replacement. Considering how much some kits cost, I might just buy the items individually and put my own kit together. 🙄

I might as well admit it now. I got more yarn. It was all going fine and dandy until… Knit Picks. KP and their damned sale with 84% off of their yarns.

*sigh*

I’m weak. Yes, I am.

I got the following:

  1. Nickel Pltd FC US 5 (3.75mm)16in
  2. Carnival Chroma Fingering
  3. *Diamond Diadem Color Injection
  4. Emerald Diadem Color Injection
  5. Winter Night Gloss
  6. Wine Tasting Stroll Tonal

I needed a new set of 16in circulars to make hats with. So, that’s justified. I wanted to replace the hank of yarn that got tangled up beyond all salvaging. That’s Stroll Tonal – Wine Tasting. I want to make the Bigger on the Inside shawl, so that sort of justifies Gloss – Winter Night but the rest is just me losing my mind. Really. 😥

*whispers*

I think I need a yarn intervention. o_O

Okay, that’s enough typing. Back to work I go! 😀
