Random Sunday Updates

Hello Everyone. It has been some time since I last posted here. I have been, admittedly, a bit busy, of late. Instead of focusing on Facebook and goofing off online, I’ve been focusing on myself and developing my potential for future application in the meatspace. I’ll just run through a few of the highlights here, shall I?

OK Cupid

I have finally gone through on the longstanding promise of deleting my OK Cupid account. The site just stopped being fun. When it first started, there were all kinds of bells and whistles to make you want to stay on the site for hours. Now, it’s more and more like the other sites. On top of that, the avalanche of crude messages I received should have been enough to make me leave a lot sooner than a few weeks ago. Had it not been for the deluge of bad messages, I might have connected with a truly wonderful person I exchanged e-mails with in 2010 a lot sooner than recently. It’s a long story, possibly for another time and another post. Suffice it to say, I haven’t been this blissfully happy in quite some time.

The Departure of the Protégé

My Knitting and Crocheting Protégé is moving out of state in a few weeks. Not like I got a chance to do more than get him fitted out in hooks and a few needle sets. I had plans for so much more but now, if we both have the time, it’ll have to be long distance and via Skype or something.

This leaves a vacancy for a Protégé in my life. I’m going to attempt to recruit the Maternal Parental for the role. She’s been showing an interest in the hook set I bought her years ago. Perhaps we could spend quality time together crocheting and knitting? Who knows? It would be a nice thing to have happen.

The Fitness

Up through to the present day, I’ve been focused on improving my health through diet and exercise. I’ve finally managed to make headway on this front. I’ve lost thirty-two pounds and several inches thus far. I’m now in smaller clothing, which is nice. I even managed to fit a dress I bought in 2011 that I was barely able to fit then. It’s loose on me now. My routine is pretty brutal during the week and much more forgiving during the weekends (to give my body a chance to rest). I’m hoping that I can maintain this level of activity for a while before ramping things up again for the next phase of fitness. A highlight was when I got in over 100,000 steps this past week.

The Container Gardens

The plants keep growing. After all, they’re living entities. Specifically the Mega Cherry Tomato in the Aerogarden. Since I last posted, some of the tomatoes have ripened and some have been harvested. They’re very tasty too.

In addition to the tomatoes growing amazingly well, I have an inflorescence in my house. One of my Snake plants has decided to put up a flower spike.

The Comestibles

Aside from the above pictured tomatoes, I had something of a treat a few weeks ago. A dear relative gifted half a bushel of the most delectable Maryland Peaches to the Maternal Parental and I. Below is an example Peach.

2016-08-30 19.47.36

So, of course, I had to make Peach Pie. It was practically a requirement that I do this in the name of Science, Asgard, and Loki. It may not have won the Great British Baking Show with its looks but it sure was tasty. *grin*

The Culling

In recent weeks, I’ve finally done the Mega Culling I’ve threatened to do for a while now. My books, my precious books. Some of them are up for grabs now. Some have already been re-homed. I hope they give many years of enjoyment to their new Humans.

A before and after of my bookcase:

2016-09-21 21.38.14

More books may be culled. The decision hasn’t been finalized yet.

The Old School Gaming

Ten years ago, I bought a six in one gaming set from Amazon, it includes a set of dominoes, a deck of cards, a Chess/Checkers board with pieces for both games, a Cribbage set, and a Backgammon set.

2016-08-23 22.36.28

I had bought this with the intention of spending quality time with people but, sadly, no one wanted to play. It’s all video games now. So, I’m going to teach myself to play these games, find video games for them, and play by myself. Then, when that glistening, shining moment arises where someone asks the $64,000.00 question of “Do you know how to play…” I’ll be able to say, “Yep”.

The Crafting

Finally, I can update the world, nay, Multiverse on the progress of these damned socks. The Rainstorm II Socks are Finished. Complete. Finito. My proof.

2016-09-25 01.17.57

It only took me from 19 February 2015 until 25 September 2016 to get them completed. As I stated previously on Instagram, this is not acceptable. The next pair of socks I start get finished within a month or I don’t get to keep them. Instead, they’ll go to the nearest Mens 9.5/Womens 11/43cm shoe size wearing person I can find. My knitting is fast enough to have finished these socks within a week of starting them, if not sooner. That’s with ample breaks to rest my finger from the brass needlepoint of my circular needles (Magic Loop knitting). Just because I was able to put it down repeatedly didn’t mean that I should have.

Anyway, onto the socks themselves. They’re very toasty warm and deliciously soft on my feet. The yarn was a dream to knit with and I’m really looking forward to making more socks in the other colorways of this yarn, which is Stroll Hand Painted from Knit Picks. The pattern is called Misti Sock Family and the pattern designer’s name is Kate Atherley.

Once I completed the socks, I decided to work on a crochet project for someone very dear to me. It’s something I’m presently working on actually. Once completed, it’ll be the second Amigurumi Adipose Baby I’ll have made but the first I’ve made in wool. Let me just say that, but for my cheap nature, if I could afford to work in wool all the time, I would. This project has been nothing short of luxurious on my hands. The wool was actually his request, so I thank him for requesting it. This pattern is called the Amigurumi Adipose and the pattern designer is Jennifer Christensen.

This is as far as I’ve gotten:

2016-10-01 22.37.06

All I have left to do is crocheting, stuffing, and attaching the feet before weaving in the ends. I hope to get this done in an hour or two.

NaNoWriMo 2016

I will be participating in National Novel Writing Month 2016. I have no idea what I’m going to write as of today. I suppose this makes me a “Pantser” until I come up with an idea? I still haven’t finished the novel from last year. Some day…

This year, I’m going to be a lot more basic with my characters, background, and storyline. I want to finish something tangible by the deadline. What I have from last year is okay, it’s just a lot of writing with more writing to come. I need something that’s going to be less War and Peace and more quick and easy read. It is October now. I really need to get myself in gear.

Okay, I think that’s it. My stomach is rumbling and I have a workout to get in, so have a fantastic day.

Peppers and Socks and Herbs…

Oh My!

An abundance of Sweet Pickle Organic Pepper seedlings. I relented and put them under the light hood of the Aerogarden of Serendipity as I’d been threatening to do for weeks now. I’ve noticed vast improvement in the short time they’ve been under the lights. This is the third day and they’re already a nice, dark green color and all straightening up.

2016-06-11 21.18.09

I’m going to give them a few more inches to grow before I mercilessly cut the very tips from them. Bwhahahahaha. No seriously, it’s a good way to get an abundant harvest of peppers out of a plant. It causes the plant to take on a compact, bushy habit and produce more flowers. More flowers (if they’re pollinated) equals more fruit. At least, I hope it gives me fruit.

2016-06-11 21.55.19

My progress on the socks. I’m about one quarter of the way through knitting the feet. Over the past month, I haven’t been able to touch this project owing to so much stress and grief but, lately, I’ve been doing pretty well at it. When I finish this, I’ll make another attempt at the Boba Fett amigurumi figurine before (hopefully) moving back to the Maternal Parental’s crocheted cardigan.

The Project list at present:

  • João’s Hello Kitty Hat (Completed)
  • Blodeuwedd The Hat for me
  • Little Boy Blue Blanket
  • Shimmer Stole
  • Handschuhe Times Two: Bruce’s Gloves
  • Cosmos Doily Madness: Doily Three
  • Rainstorm II Socks (Loading…)
  • Child-bearer’s Cardigan
  • Boba Fett Amigurumi Doll (Loading…Daylight hours)
  • Baby Groot
  • Rose Doily #804
  • Be a Friend/Have a Heart Shawl(Completed)
  • In Love With Color Throw
  • Bigger on the Inside Shawl
  • Gloves for myself
  • A scarf for myself
  • Villimarjatar Shawl
  • Large Pineapple Doily
  • Monster Slippers for Valerie

One more picture and then I’m going to go read my book. Right now, I’m reading Darwin’s Origin of Species. Anyway, this is a pre-cutting picture of the Aerogarden of Serendipity taken 30 May 2016.

2016-05-30 22.54.18

As you can see, this is a forest of basil. I’ve cut it back but it is only a matter of time before it grows back to wacky proportions.

I think, in future, I’m going to grow just about anything but the Gourmet Herb garden. I love growing Peppers and Tomatoes, so perhaps I should try those out a bit more?

Thanks for reading. Have a fantastic day.

I Am On The Waitlist!!!!!

May I present a “Yay” with a “Hey” and a “Yay Hey Hey”?

I finally got in contact with the Community Gardens Liaison for this region and got put on the waitlist for getting a plot at my local community garden. Apparently, the waitlist is quite long but I am willing, nay, eager to wait if it means I get a plot by the end of it all. According to the nice woman I talked with, there is a priority for senior citizens as they’re accessible plots designed for people with disabilities and mobility issues. I’m cool with that. Sooner or later, I’ll get a plot. Once I get it, I’m not letting it go. *tenacious growl*

I am so overjoyed just to be on the waitlist.

In other news, I’m getting the Aerogarden Bounty today. Henceforth, it shall be known as the Aerogarden of Serendipity. I got it on sale, mere hours before the sale was to run out, thanks to a friend who showed interest in getting an Aerogarden that I happened to have. Despite choosing the cheapo five to eight day Free Shipping option, it came within two days of ordering it. Fortuitous, yes?

Today also happens to be the last water change I do for the Aerogarden of Hope before I clean it out and sell it on.

In recognition of all the hard work the Aerogarden of Hope has done, I’ve made a video to say goodbye. (YouTube link)

Nothing much else is happening right now. Just the construction of the Boba Fett figurine and the Child-Bearer’s Cardigan Part Deux via crocheting.

Have a fantastic day, All!

My Personal Marathons

As noted in my previous post, I’ve been quite busy recently. Really, it’s all just my subterfuge to get away from doing the leg work I should be doing for NaNoWriMo. I’m intensely nervous about making a flaming Olympus Mons of crap writing, so I’ve been avoiding getting ready by diving into projects.

Well, I’ve messed up my “go to” crocheting project enough that I have to frog it and start over and I have an unfinished knitting project sitting on my soon to be decommissioned desk. As of this afternoon, I’ve successfully finished a project (Amigurumi Adipose) I’ve been putting off since 2012 and I feel it’s now time to buckle down and get my mental state prepared for NaNoWriMo.

Hello, World. What think you of my Adipose Baby? It took me only a few hours to do despite all the procrastination I put forth in making it. I remember a time when I was putting forth an effort at fighting this tendency in myself. I really must reignite the war against my bad habits.

At least I didn’t procrastinate on this any further than this. I still have enough time to come up with something passable to write by November.

After eleven years, this rickety desk is going out of my life. It is a secondhand hand-me-down from a neighbor who moved out of our previous residence who sold the Maternal Parental a love seat when we had no furniture to speak of. I’ve bad mouthed this table a lot over the years and cursed its existence but it really has been there for me as a constant presence. I’m going to miss the splinters, the near constant threat of my computer and other items crashing to the floor, the sticky drawers and all the other little things that will probably come to mind as I’m putting together this desk’s replacement.

Speaking of the replacement. I am getting a South Shore Annexe Home Office Computer Desk in Pure Black to match my bookcases, which are also South Shore. It’ll be nice having a stable desk with some space. I’m still trying to figure out how the internal stuff is going to be rearranged, as it only has one drawer, but I’m sure I’ll make it work somehow.

You see, this is the beginning of a redecorating plan for my room and, to a lesser extent, my home. If this decommissioned desk is wanted by the Maternal Parental, she’ll have a desk to sit and write at in her room. All I’ll need to do is get her a chair and floor mat. Update: She doesn’t want it. Saves me some money.

From there, I’m doing the shocking and unbelievable for me. After nearly ten years, I’m getting a bed to sleep in. I know! Shocking! I’m so used to the floor, it’s going to be so weird sleeping above that level. I’m reconciled to it though. I have everything for this endeavor picked out too, from the mattresses (Daybed with trundle) to the bedding to the pillows.

I am also getting rid of the Brown Battle Beast and its table in some manner. Even if it’s just putting it in the closet. In all honesty, I don’t use it. It’s just taking up space, collecting dust, and being a stand for various plants and my lamp (which is also going out of here). I don’t have all the parts to it, so selling it is not a likely scenario but if someone did make me a good offer on my circa 1950s 301a Singer Sewing Machine with table, I wouldn’t refuse.

After that is taken care of, I am going to save up and buy the Maternal Parental an Ikea sofa and two lamps she likes as a gift.

About the only other things I’m getting myself are a floor lamp and a second printer stand for my room. The floor lamp will be to replace the lamp currently sitting on the Brown Battle Beast’s table and the printer stand will be a matching one to the one currently holding the Aerogarden of Hope, only it will be for my actual printer.

Without going into too much detail… (looks up at the preceding and laughs) …there are going to be a few changes in my life over the next few years which require I rearrange things in my room and life drastically. How’s that for cryptic vagaries?

About the only other thing happening right now is Jalapeno pepper population explosion. I shook the pepper plant a few times, not really expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised today to find several peppers already developing. I know one isn’t supposed to compare children but I really wish the tomatoes would perform like this. One can only eat so many jalapenos before one gets tired of them.

That is all. Enjoy your day. Be well.

Consequential Clicking

Who would have thought that clicking the Add Friend button on Social Media could be so difficult? I’ve been semi-compulsively hovering my mouse over that button on my sister’s profile page for the better part of two months now. I haven’t seen her in person since 2003 and I haven’t talked with her since 2004. I’m just hoping that the subterfuge I use to keep my identity secret doesn’t dissuade her from adding me to her friends list.

In other clicking, I’m back to the Rainstorm II socks. I’ve set a deadline of this weekend to be at or near completion and, for a change, I’m not laughing about this. I actually think I can achieve this goal with the proper application of hard work. I’m trying to build up a bunch of little achievements so I feel good enough about myself that I might actually successfully complete NaNoWriMo.

Onto still more clicking, I’ve been tapping away at the keyboard with a tentative story idea. Now all that remains is to flesh out the backstory, characters, outline and any other fluff and filler that might be required for this story to come to fruition.

Still more clicking, bear with me. I’ve been…what does one call “window shopping” when one is not in a brick and mortar environment? Anyway, I’ve been looking at clothing. I’m down to one pair of pants, no thanks to the Maternal Parental bogarting my pants from me. So, I’m going to get her and myself new pants before I put barbed wire and such between her and my new stuff.

Funny thing is, I would never have known Amazon had these pants had I not logged into my old K-Mart account. When I first bought these pants, I got them from the latter and had fully intended on going back for more. Since that time, they’ve stopped selling the ones I bought. Lucky for me, Amazon and a host of other merchants now sell them for cheapish prices.

In other news, I’ve finally made my friend’s son the bear I promised.

This makes the third bear of this pattern I’ve made. I’m resting this pattern for a bit while I go do other things. I’ll come back to it eventually but, for right now, I want to finish up other projects that are long overdue or calling to me like an resounding echo.

About the only other thing happening in my life right now is the fact that I’ve lost five pounds. Now, it’s just a matter of keeping it off.

Take care, Peoples of the Sun.

Finally, I Am Back

After fifteen days of only using a tablet/phone for my internet access, I am back to being a Desktop jockey. Yay.

I’ve been growing things. Below is a sample of what I’ve been up to these past few days of limited computer usage.

Let us not forget the Aerogarden Equality Salsa Garden of Hope.

Yep, I’ve got stuff growing. Rolling on the floor laughingRed rose

For my next trick, I’m going to fiddle with this new computer until I can get it to play Blu-ray disks. Wish me good luck. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Day Eight of the Experiment

I am giving serious thought to ending the experiment early but I don’t know what i’m going to do with all the herbs I’ve grown. Make fish soup? Bake it into bread? Have one hell of a pasta hangover? I really don’t know.

Five of the seven herbs are overgrowing the Aerogarden of Hope. The two Basils are crowding out light for all the other plants. The Cilantro is starting to turn colors from a lack of light. The Dill and two Basils keep growing into the light. This is the third time I’ve raised the hood light in a week. Just as fast as I raise it, they grow into it again. It’s a good thing this is an LED and not a CFL system. There’s a shield between the LEDs and plants.

The Mint is doing an interesting thing. It’s shooting out the sides of the seed pod. Prior to the experiment, I cut one shoot off but six more have taken its place. Hail Hydra.

The Curly Parsley and Chives (which I had to switch out owing to light blockage) are finally starting to grow but their progress is being blocked by the Basils, though the Chives are growing into the light as well. The whole of the Room of Doom smells like Basil. It’s nice to wake up to but it’s starting to burn my eyes a bit. It is a very strong aroma. I am so tempted to just cut it all back. Again, what would I do with it? I’m not going to eat it all again. That was painful when I did it last week.

I’m thinking of experimenting with cookery vis a vis a Red Fish Soup. I have an extra can of Tomato sauce that the Maternal Parental doesn’t want to eat. I also have egg noodles, copious amounts of fresh herbs, corn, green beans, Lemon Pepper, salt, pepper and celery seeds. It’s not much but it is somewhere to put these herbs.

Oh wait. I have frozen vegetables in the freezer! Yay! I’m going to make a Red Fish Soup and Mint flavored tea. BowlCoffee cup

I guess this means that the Ignoring Experiment is over at nine days into it. Thanks for reading my updates. The results are that the herb garden, when left to its own devices, drinks up about four to six cups of water on a good day. Given the ambient temperature of my room, combined with the growing methods, the plants do exceptionally well in their present location, though there is an issue with light blockage due to the high growth rate of the Basils and Mint. Tomatoes and Peppers should love it here. Plus, I just got a request to grow Spinach.

Someone is going to have tea and soup soon. Wish me well. Devil

Not much else is happening. The World continues to spin on. I continue to live upon it.

Later Everyone! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Say Hello To My Little Friends

As you can see, I’m making a voodoo doll…no. Just kidding. Actually, this is the as yet unfinished Birthday Buddy Bunny for my little cousin. I’m hoping to get her finished by tonight and mailed off by Saturday. I’m incredibly tired right now though. So, I may have to ship it Priority and hope it gets there on or before her birthday.

In other news, my Aerogarden has shown quite significant growth among its plants. It’s almost unrecognizable from three weeks ago. Surprised smile

The Chives haven’t changed much but everything else is shooting up quite nicely. I will admit to eating a few…or more…of the leaves off of these plants over the past few weeks. Part of it was pruning, part of it was my being hungry. That’s all about to change though.

Starting today, I am not going to do anything to the Aerogarden of Hope except give it water. I want to see how far this machine can go as far as sustaining plants. Better to find it out now with the much less fickle herbs than when I get the tomatoes and peppers sitting in the Aerogarden.

I did a vlog on the Aerogarden of Hope’s progress tonight but I’m really not happy with the quality of it. So, I’m going to shoot another video tomorrow once I’ve gotten some rest. I’ve been up the past day and a half transferring most of the media on my computer to BD-RE disks. It is exhaustive, mind numbing, boring and tiring work but someone’s got to do it. Now that some 300gb of space is free on my computer, I can relax and enjoy how much more quickly it goes. I can also take my now portable media and look at it on a Bluray player if I so desire to.

Is everyone else ready for the upgrade to Windows 10? Apparently, I am. I got a special message from Microsoft offering me the opportunity to upgrade to WinX for free. Yeah, I know. I thought it was a scam or something too but it’s apparently genuine. I guess they got sick of the people holding on to 3.1 all these years. Joke. Hopefully, it won’t be a total cluster… of a situation with the upgrade. Embarrassed smile

This is actually the first time I’m keeping up with everyone on an upgrade in Windows. Normally, I stay on an OS version for years…possibly a decade or more. Don’t ask me about Windows 98…please. Crying face

Oh yeah….confession time. I recently bought some stuff from Knit Picks. Now, given both my yarn and book diet until 2017, I’m pretty ashamed of myself right now. I was supposed to refrain from buying either of these things until January 2017. The only thing I could have sort of justified was the purchase of the Shawl Pin I got. Though, I’m giving serious thought to re-evaluating this whole Yarn diet thing. I make regular trips very close to my LYS now and it would be a shame to wait until 2017 to go there when they have such good reviews and yummy yarns. So, I think I’m going to cancel the yarn diet and keep the book diet. Party smile

Got the Maternal Parental the three part series That’s Entertainment! and it’s a combination birthday/Mother’s day gift. This is her first Bluray.

Oh man, I am so tired.

Good night, Peoples of the Sun. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Keeping Up With It

It is currently three days into this writing project and I’m doing very well. I’ve managed to put something up on my blog for each day of the project. I haven’t missed a day yet and I hope not to miss a day.

Today’s prompt included a secondary goal. I am supposed to commit to a writing practice to free write for a minimum of fifteen minutes a day. I think I’m up to doing that. I am familiar with the format of Free Writing, as it is the means I use to write most of my stories. I am hoping to get something coherent out of what I put out. There was also a secondary prompt in that I’m supposed to find a new article to include in a blog post. Oy…

In case you were wondering, this is the Free Write for today.

I haven’t knitted or crocheted since Sunday. I’m hoping to get something done tonight on the October Rust Birthday Shawl. Picking my brains for words has proved exhausting to say the least. I am thankful that something is coming out. However, it seems to be sapping my creativity in other areas. I’m hoping that tonight will be different.

A joyous thing for me, I’ve gotten three series of Knitting Daily (500, 600 and 700) in the mail today with four more (800 through 1100) coming in tomorrow. Thanks to those sales, I got it all for really cheap. I only wanted the first eleven series as I don’t really have a fondness for the format of the show after series 1100. Even with my favorite designers, I couldn’t warm to series 1200 and afterward. So, I’ll be watching my DVD collection for information and inspiration as far as Fiberarts are concerned.

Aside from that, I’ve got a tripod and such coming. The tripod is for me so I can do vlogs and upload them to YouTube. Goodness knows why I want to do this, but, for some reason, I want to make video blogs about what it’s like having agoraphobia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety etc as well as other things in my day to day life. It’ll all be on my YouTube channel for *gulp* everyone to see.

Why am I doing this again? Oh yeah, I’m supposed to be stretching my boundaries to further aid my recovery. Crying face

Most likely, it’ll be me reading from one or more of my books to start off with. Then, I’ll field questions. Hopefully, I won’t fall flat on my face.

Tonight’s agenda is to do the next writing assignment and prompt, do some crocheting, watch some Knitting Daily and get ready for tomorrow.

Take care, Peoples of the Sun! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

While I’m Waiting For The Maternal Parental…

…I’m going to update the world on a few things because you all just have to know. :-p

I was doing wonderfully, swimmingly well with the Hobbes pattern for With a Little Help From My Friend Called Hobbes when the horrifying happened. I ran out of orange yarn. I knew it was going to happen, yet I was still sad and mad when it did finally occur. You see, I had gotten pretty far into the pattern by that point.

That’s right. Half of the head was completed when I ran out of the one color I needed. Thankfully, my friend who commissioned this to be made is getting more yarn today. I should have this little guy completed by the weekend.

Since I didn’t have that project to do, but still had the burning desire to crochet, I got to work on another pattern. Called Buddy Bear, I made this one for the Maternal Parental and gave her the naming rights. She called it Buttons The Bear after its Darice black button eyes.

I really put a lot into this one and worked through the night on it. It took me a little under twelve hours to make.

Then, I decided to make something for myself. So, I went with a pattern called Best Bunny and named it Bunny Bun Bun. So far, I’ve gotten most of it except for the legs, arms and tail complete.

I’m getting pretty sleepy now. I think I’ll lay down for a bit and then get back up to work some more. Then, I’m going to watch Knitting Daily, which I acquired rather cheaply for $5.88 plus shipping. Later, all. 🙂

Beyond Here Lies Nothing…

Hello, I’m KaliTime Camaralzman and I’m Agoraphobic. I was going to do a video about this but…blergh. It’s just too bloody depressing. With Agoraphobia, you tend to take baby steps in progress, hold your ground or freefall in regression as far as the condition goes. Normally, I tend towards progression but today…and tomorrow, I took a somersaulting fall backward.

I had two appointments scheduled for this week and a third appointment I was going to accompany the Maternal Parental on. The appointment with the Maternal Parental had to be skipped owing to my receiving an important package the same day. Not too upsetting.

Today though…*sigh*

I was supposed to go out to Hunt Valley for a research study appointment but couldn’t make it owing to the massive pit of terror that opened up like a black hole in my belly. So I tried the breathing exercises and other Mindfulness techniques I’d been taught in the hopes that I could salvage the appointment and still make it. No such luck. I got all vomity and quaking about ten minutes into it and knew I couldn’t have made it out to Hunt Valley in time for the appointment given my condition.

That left the increasingly unlikely appointment the next day. That appointment was even further away, just outside of Bethesda, Maryland with multiple transfers and loads of those people things milling about the place with their lack of respect for personal space and their boisterous attitudes so early in the morning. The more I thought about it, the more ill I became until I found myself calling ahead to the contact person for the meeting to explain that I couldn’t make it tomorrow.

For the first appointment, I’m eligible to go back out as soon as I qualify for another study. For the second appointment, we’re trying to schedule something sometime in the near future.

All I can say is that I’m really not liking this illness right now. I mean, we normally have our differences but I was just separated from a sizable sum of money today which could have fed my pet bank accounts much needed cashy money.

Ah well, it can’t be helped.

Now that the rest of my month is free, I can focus on these commissions that I’m not likely to be paid for. *dark look*

You know, if I find myself not getting paid this time, I’m selling the pink stuff and keeping the rest for myself.

Thankfully, I have a few projects to look forward to rather than run away from. All the stuff I’m making for my friends including the most recent request that I’m doing for free. A little Hobbes doll! I’m overjoyed to be making that one. It makes the paid work seem less daunting knowing I have that and other cool projects waiting in the wings for my friends that aren’t unappreciated.

Tonight’s agenda is Doctor Who. I’m planning on watching Series Eight all by myself once and for all. I’m up to the episode everyone talked about, Kill The Moon. After that, I think I’ll dust off series one of True Blood and have it in the background while I knit. Nothing says knitting mood like bloody gore and gratuitous violence.

One good thing about my day: I managed to get Series 200 of Knitting Daily at a fraction of the price it normally sells for. I’m hoping to get more deals like that.

Now, to Doctor Who I go. Later!

On Hats, Projects and Hectic Scheduling

I’ve got two upcoming appointments I’m going to by myself and an additional appointment I’m accompanying the Maternal Parental to. Apparently, I’m back to the numb feeling at the present. I suppose that’s good. It’s better than puking my guts out in nervousness.

I’m on schedule for my projects at least. I’m currently in the middle of Hut von Mike die Schlafmütze with a projected completion date of Wednesday or sooner. Given that I’m not taking The Little Boy Blue Blanket with me to work on due to its size, I’m going to start Blodeuwedd The Hat (my own hat) to take with me to my appointments. It’ll be something for me to work on rather than focusing on my nervously churning stomach or palpitating heart.

Well, it’s either Blodeuwedd The Hat or another pair of socks. Though, either would make a welcome change to working with black yarn in a dark room. I must admit, I’ve mostly been knitting by feel on these projects. I must be getting old indeed to have this problem considering I used to knit in the dark, with black yarn, using only the light of the television to aid me. I’m so over that now. I could do with an Ott-lite.

If I should get paid for the Blanket and other commissioned items, It’s going directly into my anemic Savings account. It’s almost 2015 and I’m doing the 52 Week Savings Challenge…backwards. Instead of saving one dollar the first week and then two the second, I’m saving $52 the first week, $51 the second week and so forth for the rest of the year. I’m trying to stay positive about this but, between the Maternal Parental and my own greed for yarn and books, it’s unlikely I’ll save anything. Still, I’m going to try. Anything going into my Savings account is not coming out except in extreme emergency situations.

Given that I’ve gotten it down to the princely sum of $1.20, I can’t exactly complain about any savings. Now can I? 🙂

The very last book I am buying for the foreseeable future is going to be a book on socks. It’s called Think Outside the Sox: 60+ Winning Designs from the Knitter’s Magazine Contest by Elaine Rowley. I was blown away by some of the featured designs I saw on Ravelry the other day. The last DVD outside of Doctor Who (because of course, I’m getting that) I’m going to get will probably be The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which includes the hottie. You’ll just have to ask who I consider hot in those movies. :p

I am really slimming down on my purchases over the next two years. No yarn, as I am giving up on commissions due to the lack of payment and respect from so-called paying customers. No books and no DVDs outside of Doctor Who. Lest you all start panicking, I am still making things for my friends, gratis, as I have promised to. In fact, not jumping to these unpalatable commissions will probably increase my productivity for the things I like doing. Let it be known, my friend’s list is select.

Woe to those of you out there who don’t appreciate hand knitted and crocheted items enough to pay reasonable prices, in a timely manner. The thing I still can’t figure out is, why do you order things if you’re not willing to pay for them? Do you think love alone pays the bills of knitters, crocheters, weavers, etc? Yes, we love our craft but the people we owe money to in this our consumerist society don’t want to hear that we only have yarn to pay them when the rent’s due or when the electricity’s about to be cut off. Do you tell your creditors that you only have smiles to pay them in? Would you work for nothing to make something for a super cheap ingrate not willing to pony up for your hard work? No? Really?! Interesting.

Sorry, people. Rant mode off.

Tonight’s agenda is Doctor Who Series Eight and working on this hat. Though, to be honest, working on this hat might prove difficult if I’m glued to Doctor Who. 🙂

Later!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

From me at KaliTime’s Growing Lunacy, to you wherever you are. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Today gives me an opportunity to reflect on what I’m thankful for everyday. That’s my good friends and family, my capacity to learn and grow and my acquisition of the basic necessities for survival and thriving in this world. Anything else is gravy. Anything bad can roll off of my back. So, I’m good.

I did most of the cooking overnight, so I woke up to a feast. The only thing I didn’t cook were the sweet potatoes. I am about to bake a cake though. Yummy.

I’m saving every bone and flap of skin, every rogue piece of meat in that turkey though. I’m going to make soup with the remains. If I can get a pie pan soon enough, I’ll make a pot pie as well. I’ve got plenty of vegetables for it.

I just heard a bit of funny news. Not funny “Ha ha” but funny “WTAF”. Apparently, the ever growing commission can’t pay me again next month. This is after I ordered even more yarn for an enlargement of the order at their request. Good thing I got all the yarn on sale. I will finish the commission and I will hold onto it until I get paid.

That’s another thing I’m very thankful for. My savvy at getting stuff at a cheap price. If I had bought the yarn required for the order at a full price, I would have been livid on finding out I wasn’t being paid yet again. This is the last time though. I’m not going through this again as I’m sick of my chain being yanked. I don’t mean to brag but I’m a competent knitter and crocheter. It may not be Eunny Jang level knitting or Kristin Omdahl level crocheting, but it’s good. So, when a person doesn’t appreciate that I’m taking time away from other projects and my life to knit and/or crochet them items, I am, understandably angry.

Well, I was angry. I’m not anymore because it’s not happening again.

Last, but certainly not least. Today is the thirty-sixth anniversary of the assassination of Harvey Milk and George Moscone. I am thankful for all the hard work put forth by those who came before me, like Harvey Milk and George Moscone, and hope that I may make the way easier for those coming after me in generations to come. Both men stood up, not only for LGBT rights, but for the Human rights that should be respected for all and for that I salute them.
