The Best of Intentions

I am planning on making a toy for my friend’s kid. She likes Hippos and I’ve found what seemed to be the perfect pattern. It’s not cartoonish or outlandish. It actually looks like a Hippopotamus. Just one problem. This pattern is written very strangely. No matter how I crochet it, I keep getting the wrong counts. It’s got to be me though because others have breezed through this thing with no problems. So, unless I ask them for help, I am left frustrated by this toy pattern. I would just make her a bear but she really REALLY likes Hippos.

In other news, I am ridiculously happy lately. No, it’s nothing to do with the change in weather (I’m more a Winter fan) or the Bipolar Disorder (I’m medication compliant and stable). I am happy because I’ve been talking, daily, to a guy I met on OKCupid. I still haven’t figured out a good code name to give him for this blog yet but know that he is deeply cared about by this Netizen. This doesn’t take one iota of care away from my feelings for the Handsome Man or anyone else. It’s just expanded my heart’s capacity to cherish relationships. I’ve been catching myself smiling lately and have just been so happy. Quite a heady experience.

The Aerogarden of Hope, as I have been calling it, finally has a 100% germination rate. I peeked in on the Curly Parsley this morning and found a little seedling looking back at me. So, I’m very happy. Coincidentally, this is the new vlog. It was filmed prior to the appearance of the Curly Parsley.

The water changing/add nutrients day is two days away. I’m looking forward to finally using my siphon for something practical. I promised the Maternal Parental I’d show her how the siphon is used. It still floors me that she doesn’t know what a siphon is. I may look a video up on YouTube so she doesn’t think it Black Magic and run away from the process.

Shockingly, this is the second thing I’ve written today and the fifth thing this week. I think the Writer’s Block may finally be melting. I hope the dam bursts on it soon. I have a backlog of writing prompts and a story to work on.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to try to make use of the remaining daylight by making an attempt on this black doily.

Have a fantastic day! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Random Mayflies

Hello Everyone!

It has been some time since I last posted. Mostly, I was just navigating some heady NRE for one of my upcoming dates. Hopefully, all the phone talking and e-mail writing will be matched by good in person chemistry. I hope so, I like this person as much as The Bloke. So much so, I might need to give him a codename for this blog and vlog.

The other date makes my belly do somersaults. This person is very intense and usually leaves me feeling giddy. We lost contact and recently reconnected, so we’re going out as well to see where we stand with each other.

Not much else has been happening. Just taking care of the household and avoiding crafting. I have been vlogging though and, in particular, my latest vlog speaks volumes as to where my head is right at this moment.

I, KaliTime Camaralzman, have finally gotten my Aerogarden. I scraped the bottom of my pet bank accounts and caught a good reduced price offering but I finally got it. Party smile

I am currently growing my own herbs. I am growing the Gourmet Herbs seed pod kit that came with the Aerogarden Ultra LED I bought. The seeds included are two types of Basil (Thai and Genovese), Cilantro, Chives, Curly Leafed Parsley, Dill and Mint. So far, two of the seedlings (the Basils) are coming up already and I am only two days into growing them. That’s fast. It’s usually at least twice that amount of time for Basil Seedlings to come up. I’m so happy right now. I’m really hoping that they’ll all grow to their full potentials.

I was so nervous about getting this thing in one piece via the delivery driver that I neglected to post two vlogs to this blog. Consider this rectified today. Due to YouTube’s API being too snooty for my remote poster, I’ll be posting links today.

The first is my longest vlog to date. Almost half an hour of time. In it, I read Ray Bradbury’s The Screaming Woman.

The second is me waxing ecstatic about my new Aerogarden Ultra LED.

It has also been some time since I hit upon my Goodreads account. I left Girl With The Dragon Tattoo about a little over midway through it a few weeks ago. I might finish it tonight if I don’t talk with anyone.

First thing’s first though. I need to get to these projects. I haven’t touched that the Cosmos Madness Doilies since 28 April. Even after I promised myself I would let no external events influence my crafting unless they were dire. While the Baltimore situation was bad, it wasn’t personally dire for me as I live quite a distance away from the center of action. So, I’m looking at the doily right now. One is getting finished today and the other tomorrow afternoon. It’s that small of a project that I should be able to complete both in that timeframe.

I also still have a moderate case of Writer’s Block keeping me from writing more on Melusine, John and Melanie. I’m going to bust through that and all the backlogged writing assignments this week.

My soil babies are doing very well too. I’ve restricted their water/fertilizer access from three times a week to once a week as needed with no fertilizer. I’m going for flowers! The only plant getting full on fertilizer at this point is the Lemongrass as it’s a heavy feeder. All the others are getting plain water as needed.

I’ve also, after much delay, potted the pineapple babies. They’re the Three Musketeers of my plant babies. Each day, I spritz them with a bit of water on their leaves. So far, they’re looking fantastic. I have high hopes that they’ll survive and thrive.

Well, that’s about it for today. Hopefully, I’ll have something outstanding and exciting for you all tomorrow and every day after that. Later! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Well, That Was…Interesting…

Baltimore City recently (27 April 2015) erupted into chaos. I, along with many others, sat watching it on live feeds and television, horrified by the violence. For any of you wondering, while I am from Baltimore City, I presently live in Baltimore County, so I’m well out of it. I appreciate your concerned messages though. Thank you for caring.

As far as I know, my family is okay. Thank you all for asking about them. Some were quite close to the action but stayed indoors and waited. As many of us did.

I will save the recriminations over who is ultimately responsible for this whole thing to more political and legal minds. I know what I’ve read and heard from the mouths of some though.

Moving on to other things, I am currently in the middle of doily three of the Cosmos Doily Madness. These doilies are for my friends on the occasion of their wedding…months ago. I’m hoping to give it to them by their anniversary. It should be done well before that time but, given how long it has taken me to get these done, I figured I’d give myself some leeway.

Sad news on the Health front. Doc F is leaving in July. I got a letter from him stating as much. Now, I’ve got to go get a new doctor. He was a pretty cool doctor too. I’m going to miss him. Crying face

Happy news on the health front. That Place has moved and…it moved less than a block from my Local Yarn Shop. Yep! I’ll be shopping at Cloverhill Yarn Shop from now on. I’m really looking forward to buying nice yarn when I’m finally off of my yarn diet. Don’t get me wrong. I love Knit Picks, Lion Brand, etc. but there’s something to be said about the appeal of being able to be tactile with the yarn you’re going to buy. One cannot do this when buying online. Open-mouthed smile

I’m planning on getting a butt load of Cascade Superwash 220 as well as whatever else they have that I like. I just have to get through my yarn diet which doesn’t end until 1 January 2017. I know, I’m a glutton for punishment. I love the colors and the fact that it’s Superwash yarn. I’m really looking forward to working with it. I’m also looking forward to socializing with other Knitters and Crocheters. Me…socializing. That’s so weird. Surprised smile

Okay, that’s enough rambling. Later! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Finished the October Rust Birthday Shawl!!!!!

This 100% wool shawl took me from the 2nd of April 2015 until the 24th of April 2015 to complete. Its made with mostly Knit Picks Swish Tonal in the colorway Wine Tasting. The edging is Lion Brand’s Superwash Merino Cashmere in the colorway Green Tea. I began and ended it on Type O Negative’s October Rust album too. I haven’t blocked it yet but it is huge now. I might just leave it as it is since the overall shape and condition of it is good. I don’t know if I could handle it if it were bigger than this.

For my next trick, I’m going to work on three projects at once. The Cosmos Doily Madness – Black Doilies, the Keepsake Lace Shawl in purple acrylic thread (good grief!) and the Rainstorm II socks. I’m hoping to get all of this done by July. Well, the doilies, I could bust those out in two days or less actually. The other stuff, July. The doilies, Mid-May?

This is the first I’ve written in my blog in almost a week. Hi! I’ve been nervous beyond reason regarding a banking snafu that recently got rectified. So, I’m hoping to get back to writing tonight or sooner.

Well, I’d better get to those Cosmos Doilies while I have the light.

Finished Valerie’s Hobbes Doll

This completion time is a new record for me. I started working on it on the 12th of February and completed it on the 15th of February.

The result of my efforts may be seen below.

During this endeavor, I’ve discovered just how quickly I can crochet when motivated. I’ve also rekindled my Kurgan crush. I spent a good portion of the making of this doll watching Highlander fan videos featuring The Original Kurgan. *hides head in shame*

Anyway…

For my next project, I’m going to be working on Kathleen’s other doily. This particular doily is called the Coffee Table Topper and I’ve done the pattern before. So, it shouldn’t take me so long to do. An example of my past work is posted below.

The last time I did this doily in a short amount of time, it took me from 11 April 2014 until 15 April 2014 to complete it. I’m hoping to beat that time. No real reason as to why I want to do it quicker beyond wanting to challenge myself.

After I complete this project, I’m going to bust out Bruce’s gloves once and for all before doing the black Cosmos Doilies. Then, I’m going to work on socks for myself and the Maternal Parental. This will be the second time I’ve attempted four socks at a time and I’m pretty nervous about trying but if Melissa Morgan-Oakes can do three at a time with no problems, I’m sure I can do four with some considerable effort.

Lucky for me, the Maternal Parental and I are about the same shoe size give or take half an inch. I can size them for me and, through the magic of the washing machine, they can shrink to her size. The Maternal Parental wants green socks, so I’m making hers using Lion Brand’s Sock-ease in the colorway Green Apple. This will be the first socks I make exclusively for her that are in sock weight yarn. The only socks I made for her thus far have been in worsted/aran weight.

For myself, I’m going to restart Sunshine using Knit Picks Stroll Tonal Sock Yarn I saved from my own enthusiastic stupidity. Without thinking, I wound most of my sock yarn into center pull cakes…double stranded…and thought I was okay. Well, I wasn’t okay. As it turns out…this little thing called Static Electricity also applies to me. I’m not as special as I thought I was. I started unwinding the first center pull skein and I watched, horrified, as my reasonably priced, yet still expensive, yarn began sticking and tangling up the more I pulled it out.

So yeah. Most of my sock yarn is like this now but there’s a workaround that I think will work. I’m going to use the outer end and let it roll around in a bowl or two while I knit. It should negate the effects somewhat. Incidentally, the colorway I’m using is Springtime, which is one of the yarns I painstakingly untangled before my mind finally grasped that I could just feed the yarn into my projects from the outside of the cake. I thought, with this cold and snowy weather we’re having in the North American East that it was inappropriate enough to warrant a few chuckles.

Now, for the work. I’m going to go get cracking on Kathleen’s doily. It won’t get done unless I do it.

Slouching Towards Completion

Hello, Everyone!

First, I would like to say Happy Darwin Day to everyone reading this.

Now, to the projects I’ve been working on. Project number one mentioned in this post is the Cosmos Doily Madness. I am fifty percent completed with that particular lunacy. As I cannot work with the black thread at night without hurting my eyes and giving myself a migraine, I have decided to do it during daylight hours.

In the meantime, and to give my hands a rest, I have decided to make my new friend, Valerie’s, Hobbes doll. In the interest of full disclosure, I am not getting paid to make this doll. I just really like creating them. Valerie sent me the yarn, felt and fiber fill. All I have to do is put it together and ship the completed doll back to her. Easy peasy.

So far, I’ve got the head complete after a few hours of working on it. I gave myself a week to get the doll done but, if I’m going at this rate, I should have it done in two days. We’ll just have to see. I have the arms, legs, ears, tail, muzzle, features and accessories to make and sew on before I’m completed.

So far, on the new medication regimen, I am doing exceptionally well. No PTSD nightmares so far, no mood swings, etc. Hardly any anxiety. I’m happy and I hope it stays this way or improves. I have yet to test the boundaries of the agoraphobia but I’m hopeful that this feeling of calm will stay with me.

I did do some gardening today. Specifically, I am making another attempt at propagating the African Violets in my care. I took a leaf from each one of the two I have and dusted both with some rooting hormone. Then, I let the pot soak in some water for a few minutes before draining it, putting it under a 32oz clear plastic container and inside a DVD+RW spindle case. Both plants have a lovely purple color. The first is a first time home picture of the older of the two. I got it on 24 April 2014 for .27 cents from the supermarket. It was on its last legs when I bought it and now it’s thriving.

The second is one I just got a few days ago. I paid $3.99 for it and I think, upon looking at the new flowers coming in, that it’s either a color changing variety or there are two different plants in the pot, each with its own color. Some flowers are coming out lavender and others are coming up indigo. I’ll know for sure in a few months when I feel its ready to be repotted.

Anyway, from these two plants, I’ve taken one leaf each. Using the method shown on YouTube by M3rma1d, I augmented it a bit by using rooting hormone. This is purely an experiment to see if I can get it to grow at all. I thought that Sansevieria plants couldn’t be grown in water but I’ve managed to do it. I also thought that, once an Aloe Vera was decapitated, the top was unusable. Proved myself wrong with that one too. I currently have one growing downstairs in the living room window along with all the other spillover plants and propagation experiments.

If I do manage to get it growing, I will, of course, spread the love around to local people I know. I’m trying to convince the Maternal Parental to take one. We’ll see.

Well, it’s long past due for me to take my medication. Later. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

Evil Randomness

The Maternal Parental is recovering. She’s being a bit of a headache actually. Her and those cigarettes are driving me around the bend.

Ooooh, I love finished projects. Say hello to the first of the Cosmos Doily Madness. This particular doily set is for Kathleen. I am presently working on doily number two of this set. If I really work at it, I should get it finished sometime today.

It’s been such a rollercoaster these past few weeks, both personally and crafting wise. I haven’t had time to post owing to that. Hopefully, that’s all over now and I can get back to normal.

It’s now February. Yay. Unlike most years, I actually have people to celebrate Valentine’s with. I just hope I get to see them this month or thereabouts. I’ve got gifts either coming or already made for both, so that’s covered. Really, I just want to spend nice quality time with them.

In other situations, I forgot to put the steel crochet hooks in the gift bag for my protégé. I guess I’ll give them to him, along with some thread, when I see him again. Hopefully, he’ll bring me some delicious candy from the store he frequents.

I must be mad but…I’m determined to get another African Violet. This one is a really deep purple color. That’s if the supermarket still has it. I saw it about a month and a half ago but didn’t have the money to get it at the time because I was more concerned with getting actual food items and a snow shovel in the house. This time, I’ve saved up the 4.99. If they have it, I’m totally getting it.

Okay, time to admit the big evil. I shopped at Wal-Mart. Specifically, Walmart.com and I saved a lot of money. However, I feel evil for doing it. We needed household supplies and I just couldn’t carry it home this time around due to exhaustion. So, I ordered:

2x big bottles of Laundry Detergent

2x big boxes of Dishwasher Detergent

2x big bottles of Dishwashing Liquid Detergent

1x 27 count toilet paper

1x bubble bath for the Maternal Parental

It was the same price to cheaper than Amazon and it was all the brands I normally buy except for the bubble bath. The volume offered was fantastic and they’re shipping right to my door. I can’t believe I’m saying this but…I hope this order turns out alright so I can make this a habit. Shockingly, the Walmart.com site even has yarn. Even better, with the exception of the Dishwashing Liquid Detergent, almost the entire order shipped within a day for free. Good luck getting that to happen with Amazon without paying over $70.00USD a year for it.

For my next order, I’m getting two bookcases for my book and DVD/Blu-Ray collections. At $39.99USD per bookcase, I may finally have organizational sanity in my room instead of piled and stacked books and video media akin to the leaning tower of Pisa.

From Amazon, I finally got my friggin’ pie pans. Let the pot pie making commence. I also got a buttload of DVDs on the cheap as well as a few other things.

In the realm of sleep, I’ve been getting it but I’ve been having PTSD nightmares to go along with it. Mostly flashbacks of the things that happened to me but also a few fanciful scenarios that have almost no basis in reality other than merging with my memories of certain locations. Either way, the dreams suck. Yet, I have to sleep. Such a dilemma.

Well, it’s time for me to get back to crocheting. I’ve got Doilies to finish. Later. Rolling on the floor laughing
