Sorry, Not Sorry

I was unhappily knitting away yesterday morning when the dreaded doom of dread happened. I made a mistake in the lace portion of the knitting. Undaunted, I slowly tinked back my work and was doing fine with getting the stitches in proper accord. Once I got back to the missed Yarnover, I applied the stitch and began slowly advancing the pattern again. That’s when IT happened.

The yarn snapped on me. The yarn actually snapped on me.

By that point, nothing had slipped apart but, to be honest, the blanket, for me, had been a comedy of errors  and “soul” draining from the very beginning and that was the last straw. I decided to call it quits and inform the party waiting for it of my decision.

The overwhelming relief I felt at the snap of that yarn was palpable. I’m never going to allow myself to get tied down into a project like that again.

For the record, I like Lace knitting, or rather, I would like it under normal circumstances. These were most certainly not those times.

The first thing I did upon tossing that thing in the trash? Picked up my sweater, of course! Sleeve one has commenced. I’m following the pattern for my first time knitting a sweater but, in future, I may utilize the two at a time technique.

Today is actually the first day I’ve been predominantly migraine free for the first time in three days. I’m still a bit off but I’m not in any great mind numbing pain like I was before. Hopefully, this will foster a more positive experience in my knitting.

Despite this, I managed to maintain my German Language learning streak, albeit through an unintentional extended lesson via Duolingo for a total of thirty one days thus far. Someone may have taken several breaks between XP points gathering sessions due to the light on her phone being too bright to look at. Someone is about to, at 4:19 AM, do more German language practice right now. Party smile

On a completely different note, I’ve changed my mind regarding the Die Ärzte t-shirt. It’s a long story but I’m eternally grateful to a friend of mine for saving me so much money. Instead, I’ll save my money for something else.

Until the next time, have a safe and fantastic journey around the Sun. Take care, my friends. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

The Horror…

I’m back to posting on my Language Practice Blog. I would like to apologize in advance for my horrible translations of the German language. At the very least, I’ve gotten the essen/fressen thing down to memory. I won’t make that mistake again… Embarrassed smile

My reason for getting back into this is mainly due to the challenge set forth on Instagram for the month of May. A nice person who goes by the handle JoyofLanguages put a challenge out there to be seen using a language diary or be seen speaking/writing the language we’re learning. Since I’m giving German my best effort, I figured I’d join in on the fun. Things like this are better together rather than alone. Plus, there’s a degree of accountability with having to report every day. I’m less likely to slack off if I know someone is watching.

Speaking of…I need to get back on Duolingo. I sense a disturbance in the Force. My ranking is in jeopardy. I’ve awakened the sleeping giants by passing them in XP points and suddenly people who haven’t been on the site in weeks to months are coming back to reclaim their titles. The more the merrier says I. Party smile

About the only other thing I’m doing is knitting that blanket still. Thanks to the music of Die Ärzte, I’m a little over fifty percent done with it. I still need to get the remainder finished though, so it is back to the needles tonight and every night until I bind the stitches off. I am so sick of knitting pink acrylic yarn. Under normal circumstances, this is just yarn to me. Right now, in this project, this is a vile abomination. I’m just going to get lost in the music and relax my way to the finish line of this project.

Speaking of the Best Band in the World…I’m making it my mission to get at least one T-shirt of theirs before the end of twelve months. I’m going to scrounge and save every penny I get until I have enough to cover the Cost of Product, International Shipping, and the Customs fees from Germany to here. I love their music that much and I love that I’m picking up more German words as a result of listening to them.

It is currently 86F in my locale. Too warm too soon. I could really do with one of those freak snow storms. Ha ha. Just kidding, people. Relax.

I’m Baaaaack….

It has been some time since I last posted here. NaNoWriMo was and still is a success. I’m still writing my story. Though there isn’t the pressure to finish within a month like there was previously. I’m seriously considering participating in Camp NaNoWriMo when it comes up. I’ll have to read more into it.

At this point, I’m barely a third of the way into it and I’ve got so much more to write. I’m hoping I’m up to the task as it is building up to be quite a good story.

Among other things, namely my sweater. I’ve been sporadically working on that since the end of NaNoWriMo and have made some progress in the length of the body. I’ve added another cake of yarn to the Mir Ist Kalt sweater and caked the rest of it for processing as needed. I’m hoping to get this thing finished before the end of the year but, knowing my notoriously slow knitting, it doesn’t seem likely.

At this point, that’s the only project I’m working on as I wind down from the stress of November.

During my hiatus from the blog, a few things happened. I found my old hat and scarf set, so no immediate need to make a new set. I won’t freeze in the descending chilly weather.

I also managed to finally get my glasses. It is great to finally see things again without using my manual zoom function or having blurry vision. I also took the Sweet Pickle Organic Peppers out of commission. They’ve been replaced by Mega Cherry Tomatoes. Let’s see. What else? Gave one of the pineapple babies away and it is being cared for very well. My home got new windows. Yadda Yadda Yadda.

I’ve also been social. I’ve been going to *shock*gasp*awe* events held at local establishments like the Libraries. Finally, I am learning from the Khan Academy and Duolingo again.

I’m doing the Computer programming section and struggling through programming languages. I think I’m starting to get an inkling of it. However, only time, practice, and more practice will help me. Right now, I’m working in JavaScript but my ultimate goal is to learn Python.

For Duolingo, I am, of course, taking German. It is remarkable to me how much I’ve retained. I took to the app like a fish to water. My language level may be Beginner/Basic but I retain the words very well. Next step, an academic course in the language.

That’s about it. Until the next time, have a safe and fantastic journey around the Sun. Take care, my friends. Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow

I’ve Finally Found It…

My second language has finally been discovered. True, it took trepanning and a good deal of mental excavation to find it.

That language is…German. In truth, I should have known better. I did try to teach myself this language when I was ten. I have been practicing daily, about three hours per day, for thirty-seven days now. If you’d like, you can follow my progress on Duolingo. I’m now at the point where I can just barely make out what people are saying or what is written down. I definitely need to practice more if I’m going to be fluent but it is a good start.

I just need to find some Germans. Yoo hoo. Germans? Are you out there?

For that task, I’ve done the unbelievable. I’ve opened a new OKCupid account. This time around, my task isn’t really dating. It is finding a language pal/study buddy, so hopefully, I won’t have any trouble with anyone at all. Wishful thinking, I know. It is the seat of comedy but I’ve gotten rather a lot of matches to Dutch people. I don’t mind. It is a bit mentally rich carrying three languages around in my head at once in the name of politeness but you do what you do.

The friends I’ve made have gotten a hilarious chuckle out of this one. I’ve been learning a lot of German from the lyrics of Rammstein. Someone…might listen to them for more time in the day than they study on Duolingo. Angel

Those same friends suggested I expand my musical tastes, so they gave me a small listing of artists that they liked. I then combined their favorites with the Get Germanized listing of popular German music artists (YouTube Link) for later exploration. Some [who I won’t name] I really didn’t like, but others sound very good.

One group I’m going to be giving my ears next is Die Ärzte. They came up on multiple lists as highly recommended. Anyone out there have any other recommendations? Please, leave them in the comments. Smile

Aside from the above, it has been a summer of Plantar Fasciitis in both feet, crochet, strange propositions, lather, rinse, Repeat.
