Random Sunday Updates

Hello Everyone. It has been some time since I last posted here. I have been, admittedly, a bit busy, of late. Instead of focusing on Facebook and goofing off online, I’ve been focusing on myself and developing my potential for future application in the meatspace. I’ll just run through a few of the highlights here, shall I?

OK Cupid

I have finally gone through on the longstanding promise of deleting my OK Cupid account. The site just stopped being fun. When it first started, there were all kinds of bells and whistles to make you want to stay on the site for hours. Now, it’s more and more like the other sites. On top of that, the avalanche of crude messages I received should have been enough to make me leave a lot sooner than a few weeks ago. Had it not been for the deluge of bad messages, I might have connected with a truly wonderful person I exchanged e-mails with in 2010 a lot sooner than recently. It’s a long story, possibly for another time and another post. Suffice it to say, I haven’t been this blissfully happy in quite some time.

The Departure of the Protégé

My Knitting and Crocheting Protégé is moving out of state in a few weeks. Not like I got a chance to do more than get him fitted out in hooks and a few needle sets. I had plans for so much more but now, if we both have the time, it’ll have to be long distance and via Skype or something.

This leaves a vacancy for a Protégé in my life. I’m going to attempt to recruit the Maternal Parental for the role. She’s been showing an interest in the hook set I bought her years ago. Perhaps we could spend quality time together crocheting and knitting? Who knows? It would be a nice thing to have happen.

The Fitness

Up through to the present day, I’ve been focused on improving my health through diet and exercise. I’ve finally managed to make headway on this front. I’ve lost thirty-two pounds and several inches thus far. I’m now in smaller clothing, which is nice. I even managed to fit a dress I bought in 2011 that I was barely able to fit then. It’s loose on me now. My routine is pretty brutal during the week and much more forgiving during the weekends (to give my body a chance to rest). I’m hoping that I can maintain this level of activity for a while before ramping things up again for the next phase of fitness. A highlight was when I got in over 100,000 steps this past week.

The Container Gardens

The plants keep growing. After all, they’re living entities. Specifically the Mega Cherry Tomato in the Aerogarden. Since I last posted, some of the tomatoes have ripened and some have been harvested. They’re very tasty too.

In addition to the tomatoes growing amazingly well, I have an inflorescence in my house. One of my Snake plants has decided to put up a flower spike.

The Comestibles

Aside from the above pictured tomatoes, I had something of a treat a few weeks ago. A dear relative gifted half a bushel of the most delectable Maryland Peaches to the Maternal Parental and I. Below is an example Peach.

So, of course, I had to make Peach Pie. It was practically a requirement that I do this in the name of Science, Asgard, and Loki. It may not have won the Great British Baking Show with its looks but it sure was tasty. *grin*

The Culling

In recent weeks, I’ve finally done the Mega Culling I’ve threatened to do for a while now. My books, my precious books. Some of them are up for grabs now. Some have already been re-homed. I hope they give many years of enjoyment to their new Humans.

A before and after of my bookcase:

More books may be culled. The decision hasn’t been finalized yet.

The Old School Gaming

Ten years ago, I bought a six in one gaming set from Amazon, it includes a set of dominoes, a deck of cards, a Chess/Checkers board with pieces for both games, a Cribbage set, and a Backgammon set.

2016-08-23 22.36.28

I had bought this with the intention of spending quality time with people but, sadly, no one wanted to play. It’s all video games now. So, I’m going to teach myself to play these games, find video games for them, and play by myself. Then, when that glistening, shining moment arises where someone asks the $64,000.00 question of “Do you know how to play…” I’ll be able to say, “Yep”.

The Crafting

Finally, I can update the world, nay, Multiverse on the progress of these damned socks. The Rainstorm II Socks are Finished. Complete. Finito. My proof.

2016-09-25 01.17.57

It only took me from 19 February 2015 until 25 September 2016 to get them completed. As I stated previously on Instagram, this is not acceptable. The next pair of socks I start get finished within a month or I don’t get to keep them. Instead, they’ll go to the nearest Mens 9.5/Womens 11/43cm shoe size wearing person I can find. My knitting is fast enough to have finished these socks within a week of starting them, if not sooner. That’s with ample breaks to rest my finger from the brass needlepoint of my circular needles (Magic Loop knitting). Just because I was able to put it down repeatedly didn’t mean that I should have.

Anyway, onto the socks themselves. They’re very toasty warm and deliciously soft on my feet. The yarn was a dream to knit with and I’m really looking forward to making more socks in the other colorways of this yarn, which is Stroll Hand Painted from Knit Picks. The pattern is called Misti Sock Family and the pattern designer’s name is Kate Atherley.

Once I completed the socks, I decided to work on a crochet project for someone very dear to me. It’s something I’m presently working on actually. Once completed, it’ll be the second Amigurumi Adipose Baby I’ll have made but the first I’ve made in wool. Let me just say that, but for my cheap nature, if I could afford to work in wool all the time, I would. This project has been nothing short of luxurious on my hands. The wool was actually his request, so I thank him for requesting it. This pattern is called the Amigurumi Adipose and the pattern designer is Jennifer Christensen.

This is as far as I’ve gotten:

2016-10-01 22.37.06

All I have left to do is crocheting, stuffing, and attaching the feet before weaving in the ends. I hope to get this done in an hour or two.

NaNoWriMo 2016

I will be participating in National Novel Writing Month 2016. I have no idea what I’m going to write as of today. I suppose this makes me a “Pantser” until I come up with an idea? I still haven’t finished the novel from last year. Some day…

This year, I’m going to be a lot more basic with my characters, background, and storyline. I want to finish something tangible by the deadline. What I have from last year is okay, it’s just a lot of writing with more writing to come. I need something that’s going to be less War and Peace and more quick and easy read. It is October now. I really need to get myself in gear.

Okay, I think that’s it. My stomach is rumbling and I have a workout to get in, so have a fantastic day.

Resplendent Day

Tomatoes

I have tomatoes coming in. Yes. Oh yes. At least fourteen cherry tomatoes are going to develop on this stocky little plant from the flowers I’ve been vigorously shaking on a daily basis. The reason I know this to be true is due to the fact that one flower came off because of my overenthusiastic shaking program and, when I pulled the blossom out to check the development of the tomato, it was on its way to becoming a new fruit.

So, I am going more cautiously now but I am still shaking daily until I get confirmation of fruiting in the form of blossom drop off. This is happening on the forty-five day old plant. The second, twenty-nine day younger plant is just starting to branch out. I should be docking it within the next two weeks or so once it gets bigger.

I am so excited to be growing tomatoes again. I loved doing it the last time notwithstanding the difficulty in getting them to fruit compared with peppers. When I grew the Jalapeno peppers, the flowers practically pollinated themselves whenever I walked past the Aerogarden. The tomatoes, on the other hand, require a good shake and/or usage of the pollinator to get good results in fruit maturity rates. I don’t mind, considering I love doing this. It is just something I’ve noticed.

Rainstorm II Socks

These socks are, at long last, nearing completion. I’ve knitted late into the night on them several nights this past week and I’ve finally made progress on them with only eighteen more rounds to do before I start closing for the toes. In future, I am not going to delay when making socks for myself. I am going to work on them right away, as often as possible and as long as possible until they are completed. Hopefully, this will keep me from having such a longstanding WIP.

There is more but I’m putting it in my hand written journal. Thanks for reading. Have a great day.

Shining Brightly In The Dark

A book, too, can be a star, a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe.

–Madeleine L’Engle

So, I have the beginnings of a book. It is nowhere near completion and I have more than the 50,000 words required for NaNoWriMo thus far. I validated on the 22nd of November. I’m dedicated to following this one through. This is the longest string of words I’ve put together in my life and it’s coherent. It’s solid. It’s pretty good actually. At least, I think so. As soon as I’m further along, I’ll update the PDF file and pass it along to my friend for his perusal.

One of my SOs asked me when it was going to be completed. I admit to being a bit peeved at the rush on the timetable. It’s not like there’s a deadline for me to write this. This book is for my own personal accomplishment in writing. As it stands, I am writing as quickly as I possibly can, as much as I can. For example, my plan is to do 6,500 words today, tomorrow, and Tuesday before giving myself a much needed break on Wednesday. I haven’t been sleeping like I should or doing things I normally would be doing in place of the writing. I’ve never felt this way before. It’s like something has smashed inside of me and opened the floodgates on the innate ability I have to write things. I love it. This feeling is exhilarating.

Waiting in the background for this novel to be completed are several projects and another story I need to write a continuation on. I wrote a story in 2006 and finally posted it to Adult-FanFiction and Literotica a little over a month ago with the title Unintentional Advances. The chief complaint about it has been that I didn’t flesh out one of the characters enough and that I didn’t give a less ambiguous ending. My intention with the story was mainly to write from the one character’s perspective, but I concur that more could have been said about the other character, so a revisit is warranted. The ambiguous ending was intended to give the reader a chance to make up their own story (hopefully a nice one) for the two characters but, apparently, everyone wants me to write it out. I’m up to it. I just need to get back into the characters. I laid them to rest in 2006 when I wrote the story and only dusted it off to edit for publishing and give it a title (Thanks, Brandon, for your help with the title).

On the project front, I have an unfinished Hobbes head staring at me with its Darice button eyes. It’s for my friend on the occasion of his birthday in less than a month’s time. I also still have socks, a doily, a stole, a blanket, a Boba Fett, and a sweater to make. In addition to this, December is supposed to be the month I start the In Love With Color throw. I also, still, haven’t made my winter gear. So, I’m going to be quite busy over the next few weeks.

At some point during all of this, I may do a vlog. A long vlog too. Not a short, update on the Aerogarden or anything but a proper scripted vlog featuring things.

For now though, I need tea. Lots and lots of tea. Later.

It’s Getting Real Rather Quickly

I had quite forgotten I’d finished a significantly long (for me) story at around this time of year in 2013. Thank you, Facebook’s On This Day, for reminding me. I’m going to take that as a positive indicator that I can do NaNoWriMo and stop panicking.

Also, new vlog coming up soon-ish. I got a 128gb card for my phone which freed up my 64gb card (999 minutes) for my camcorder rather than the 2gb (30 minutes) card I was using. Now, it’s only battery life holding me up and my camcorder can film while plugged in so…it’s just a question of finding a good angle to position the camera or cord with length to make that possible.

Yesterday was the twenty-seventh anniversary of the death of one of my greatest friends. She died in a fire in 1988 ten days shy of her eighth birthday. For the first time since then, I haven’t gotten hyper morbid or super depressed. I suppose that’s progress? When I finish this novel, I’ll see about dedicating it to her memory.

Come 15 October, I’m not going to be online as much as I normally am as I’m fully dedicated to completing this novel. I’ll try to check in from time to time though and I’ll definitely be back after 30 November hopefully with a completed book under my proverbial belt.

The Rainstorm II socks are a little over half complete now. I should have them done just in time for my semi-hiatus. I sincerely hope, because everything except dear ones, eating, bathing, and other necessities is getting put on hold starting 15 October.

Anyone got any good writing music recommendations to keep me motivated during this?

Oh yes, I’m getting a newer, better desk on Wednesday. Finally! Yay!

I’m lugging 124lbs of material up my stairs by myself tomorrow before doing a two person effort by my lonesome. I reckon I’m good for it though as I’ve previously put together the television stand mostly by myself and two bookcases completely by myself and they’re all by the same manufacturer, South Shore.

I think that’s everything. I wish you all the best during this month and a half of minimal communication. Now I go to knit. Later!

Busy Busy Bee

I have been quite busy lately. In addition to watching ALL THE MOVIES, I have been either harvesting fruit or watching flowers growing on my various plants. I’ve also been gearing up for NaNoWriMo and last but not least, I’ve been knitting and crocheting on projects.

First up are my socks that I call Rainstorm II. I’ve been technically working on these things since February. I hope to have them completed before the end of the week.

Next comes the Healing Hobbes Doll I’ve made for my cousin. The pattern for this doll may be found via a link on its Ravelry page. I switched it up a bit and used 12mm Darice plastic eyes instead of sewing on felt.

I haven’t been working on the Caregiver’s Cardigan like I should. Hopefully, once I’m finished with other projects, I can focus on it when I’m not writing.

Another pattern that has attracted my interest is the Keepsake Lace Shawl. I started making this one back in April but I messed up somewhere along the way and have to frog it before restarting. I’m doing this shawl in Bernat’s Handicrafter’s Crochet Thread in the colorway Orchid, which is kind of a dark purple.

I have also finally managed to get the pelargoniums to bloom. The flowers are coming in day by day, little by little. I’m really hoping for a red flower. The one coming in below looks to be a salmon color.

Plus, in the realm of resurrected from the pit of Doom, I give you the Little Boy Blue Blanket. For reasons I won’t go into, I’m going to be working on this one to completion.

Hopefully, I’ll get all of this completed by December and I’ll be able to relax and work on…the In Love With Color Throw.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have work to do, horrid movies to watch, and tea to drink. Later.

Consequential Clicking

Who would have thought that clicking the Add Friend button on Social Media could be so difficult? I’ve been semi-compulsively hovering my mouse over that button on my sister’s profile page for the better part of two months now. I haven’t seen her in person since 2003 and I haven’t talked with her since 2004. I’m just hoping that the subterfuge I use to keep my identity secret doesn’t dissuade her from adding me to her friends list.

In other clicking, I’m back to the Rainstorm II socks. I’ve set a deadline of this weekend to be at or near completion and, for a change, I’m not laughing about this. I actually think I can achieve this goal with the proper application of hard work. I’m trying to build up a bunch of little achievements so I feel good enough about myself that I might actually successfully complete NaNoWriMo.

Onto still more clicking, I’ve been tapping away at the keyboard with a tentative story idea. Now all that remains is to flesh out the backstory, characters, outline and any other fluff and filler that might be required for this story to come to fruition.

Still more clicking, bear with me. I’ve been…what does one call “window shopping” when one is not in a brick and mortar environment? Anyway, I’ve been looking at clothing. I’m down to one pair of pants, no thanks to the Maternal Parental bogarting my pants from me. So, I’m going to get her and myself new pants before I put barbed wire and such between her and my new stuff.

Funny thing is, I would never have known Amazon had these pants had I not logged into my old K-Mart account. When I first bought these pants, I got them from the latter and had fully intended on going back for more. Since that time, they’ve stopped selling the ones I bought. Lucky for me, Amazon and a host of other merchants now sell them for cheapish prices.

In other news, I’ve finally made my friend’s son the bear I promised.

This makes the third bear of this pattern I’ve made. I’m resting this pattern for a bit while I go do other things. I’ll come back to it eventually but, for right now, I want to finish up other projects that are long overdue or calling to me like an resounding echo.

About the only other thing happening in my life right now is the fact that I’ve lost five pounds. Now, it’s just a matter of keeping it off.

Take care, Peoples of the Sun.

Finished the October Rust Birthday Shawl!!!!!

This 100% wool shawl took me from the 2nd of April 2015 until the 24th of April 2015 to complete. Its made with mostly Knit Picks Swish Tonal in the colorway Wine Tasting. The edging is Lion Brand’s Superwash Merino Cashmere in the colorway Green Tea. I began and ended it on Type O Negative’s October Rust album too. I haven’t blocked it yet but it is huge now. I might just leave it as it is since the overall shape and condition of it is good. I don’t know if I could handle it if it were bigger than this.

For my next trick, I’m going to work on three projects at once. The Cosmos Doily Madness – Black Doilies, the Keepsake Lace Shawl in purple acrylic thread (good grief!) and the Rainstorm II socks. I’m hoping to get all of this done by July. Well, the doilies, I could bust those out in two days or less actually. The other stuff, July. The doilies, Mid-May?

This is the first I’ve written in my blog in almost a week. Hi! I’ve been nervous beyond reason regarding a banking snafu that recently got rectified. So, I’m hoping to get back to writing tonight or sooner.

Well, I’d better get to those Cosmos Doilies while I have the light.

Later! Rolling on the floor laughingRed heartRainbow
