Exercise Note To Self

Starting on 26 November 2013, I’ll be restarting my calisthenics for a total time of 120 minutes or two hours. Yeah!

Hopefully, this will make a difference in my weight where dancing hasn’t. I may also walk out there for a bit in a few day’s time to get my heart rate up without stressing my bedroom floor. It’s supposed to rain cats, dogs, giraffes, capybara and other fauna over the next few days. I’d rather not walk through that as I can’t swim yet.

Celebratory Yays

I am finally back to exercising. I did a full extended workout tonight which is the first of eight weeks worth of workouts for all the missed days I had. I should be up to my old routine by early October. Incidentally, I lost five pounds and now weigh 250lbs. 🙂

In other news, I’ve started a new project. The finger on my other hand, my knitting hand, is now injured with a cut, so I started a crocheting project to pass the time until it heals. I’m calling it the Scrap Yarn Shiver Stopper Mini and I am, so far, eleven rounds into it.

I’m really just trying to get rid of the scrap acrylic yarn from Lion Brand and TLC since they’ve got such similar textures. I was going to roll it all into a giant Dreamy Lace Baby Throw but I figured one major crocheting project is enough this year. The pattern for this blanket is called the Rainbow Ripple Baby Blanket and can be found via a link on this page. This project is my “away from home” crafting. I plan to take it with me to Doctor’s appointments for the waiting room, bus rides and other things that tend into the mind numbingly boring.

That’s about it. I’m going to go and get some water. I haven’t been hydrating like I should lately. Later. 🙂

New Schedule and Other Things

Revisions, revisions!

I have updated my weekly schedule to reflect the change I made in my exercise routine. I’ve moved exercise to 7pm and switched off the internet for 7am. This will enable me to get my work done during the day without being exhausted from the 90 minute exercise routine I normally do. I can get my other stuff done, exercise, then wind down with a bit of crafting before going to bed.

Speaking of crafting, I am no further along with the socks. I stopped mid-heel flaps the other day. As soon as I finish this blog post, I am going to work on them to complete the heel flaps and, hopefully, make progress past the gusset decreases today.

I had to reset my phone the other day. The LG Optimus V was rebooting itself over and over again. I’d heard about this bug in the phone after I got it but, until now, I’d not experienced it firsthand. Funny how, when I’m about to get a new phone, this one suddenly starts acting up. I was almost going to keep this old phone and save my money but now? I do not think so. I’m going to welcome that new phone with open arms. This LG Optimus V will be the plaything of the Maternal Parental in her quest to become computer literate.

Further along in the Hair Saga, I didn’t cornrow my hair. I just wasn’t in the mood to do it. So now, I’m rocking two big Afro puffs. I’ll probably do the cornrows next week.

Regarding the Zimmerman trial, I just can’t bring myself to write indepth about something so sad. A young man lost his life and I’ve been watching people tear the internet apart on pages and in comments with some people really making me question the need for humanity in existence. I’ve even lost friends over this whole thing due to their racism and or callousness in the face of the verdict. It’s just tragedy on top of tragic.

Anyway, that’s about it. I’m going to go knit now and watch Jesus Christ Superstar 2000 on a loop. Later, People. By the way, check out the blanket Queer Joe’s making.

Experimentation in Exercise

I have been keeping up with my exercise routine these past few weeks. I haven’t missed a day’s exercising. With this, I have seen positive results in that my strength has been returning, I have been sleeping better, my appetite has been healthy (for a change) and I have been losing some weight. There was just one problem in all of this: The overwhelming exhaustion that occurred with exercising for 90 minutes to 2 hours. Nothing would shake this sleepy pall that covered me day after day.

Despite my schedule, I would take naps during the day and still be sleepy enough to get 7-10 hours of sleep a night. This, on the whole, wasn’t working with my schedule. I’m meant to be up at 5am writing. It’s when my mind is most conducive to creativity, hence the early time. When I was younger, insomnia kept me awake for days at a time and I frequently would write during those early hours as a means of escape from my plight of sleeplessness. Now, I’m just trying to write to bring back my creative streak. The sleepiness was getting in the way of the coherence of that goal.

So, I decided to experiment with my exercise schedule to see if working out at a different time might aid in normalizing my sleeping patterns. Instead of exercising at 7am, I opted instead to exercise at 19:00 (7pm) in the hopes that this change would positively affect my somnolency. Day one of the experiement was a success. I exercised at 19:00 through 20:30 (7pm – 8:30pm) and my body was quite effectively tired. I then spent the rest of my night before bed time knitting and watching Jerome Pradon videos via YouTube until 23:30 (11:30pm). I went to bed and promptly fell asleep until 5:19(am), only waking once during the night at 2:15(am) owing to thirst.

If I can repeat the results tonight, I’m changing my schedule. I have a good feeling about it though. 🙂

On the sock front, Keith’s Socks II and Ziller’s Symphony are a little under half done. I am presently in the middle of the heel flaps of socks one and two. It shouldn’t take me that long to get beyond this, through the turning of the heels, the gusset decreases and into the sock feet. It feels good to be beyond the legs of the socks finally. I feel like there’s a light at the end of this sock tunnel now.

Once I finish these socks, I go back to Villimarjatar and the Return of the Scrap Yarn Shiver Stopper, though, I’m thinking of doubling the width of Villimarjatar. I think I want a full shawl rather than a scarf/stole as it would be on me with the present stitch count. For this, I would need circular needles and more yarn. I’ll have to cross that bridge when I come to it. Right now, I’m focused on the socks.

In the furtherance of the Hair Saga, I cornrow my hair today for sure. Yesterday was a pins and needles day for me what with the heel flaps, exercise experiment, etc. Considering I exercised twelve hours ago, my arms feel great and up to the task of styling my hair. I’m going to attempt to put the exact same style in my hair as before, just neater hopefully.

That’s about it really. Later, people. 🙂

New Week, New-ish Routine

This is a quote taken from my most recent entry on 43things.

Temporary New Exercise Routine and My Playlist

This is my new exercise routine effective immediately until I can properly absorb the routine of FitnessBlender and add their exercises in my regimen to replace what I do now.

Fifty Push ups
Fifty Crunches
Fifty Leg lifts
Fifty Seated stretches (touching one set of toes at a time)
Fifty Seated Bows (leaning forward as far as possible)
Fifty Standing Toe touches
Fifty Side Knee bends (each leg)
Fifty Front Knee bends (each Leg)
Fifty Squats
Side downward punches (for the duration of two songs)
Fifty Arm lifts (each arm)
Arm Flexes (for the duration of two songs)
Hip flexes (for the duration of two songs)
March in place (for the duration of two songs)
Air punches (for the duration of two songs)
Neck exercises (for the duration of two songs)
Jog in place (for the duration of two songs)
Leg flexes (for the duration of two songs)
Air cross punch (for the duration of two songs)

To do all this, I listen to a playlist of songs via my computer. The songs are as follows.

Toto – Africa
Black Box – Strike It Up
Harry Belafonte – Jump in the Line
Dead or Alive – You Spin Me Round
Haddaway – What is Love?
Daft Punk – Around the World
Simple Minds – Don’t You Forget About Me
Cherry Poppin’ Daddies – Pool Shark
Bon Jovi – It’s My Life
KLF – 3am Eternal
Ben Folds – You Don’t Know Me
Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
Lupe Fiasco – The Show Goes On
Coldplay – Viva La Vida
Tarkan – Dudu
Kaye Styles – Survivor
Daft Punk – Technologic
Hall and Oates – Private Eyes
Ace of Base – All That She Wants
Hall and Oates – Maneater
Squirrel Nut Zippers – Ghost of Stephen Foster
Cherry Poppin’ Daddies – Zoot Suit Riot
Black Sabbath – War Pigs (included in my cool down period)

All the above songs come to approximately 96 minutes of music which is perfect for my workout. Yesterday, due to a few setbacks, I even restarted the playlist several times just to get in more of a workout but, generally, I let it play through while I’m exercises so I can focus on my health. It may not be the most popular music out there but it gets me pumped to do my regimen everyday. I’m not likely to make a change to it for quite a while.

Aside from that, there was a winner last night in my informal vote over what I should watch next and the winner was Sherlock. The voting wss very exciting too. It came down to a tie between True Blood and Sherlock with everyone cheering on and voting for their favorite. Even that eventually came to a tie until three people broke the dead heat. So, just as I promised, I’ve been looking at Sherlock. I love watching it too. I’ve seen every episode except A Scandal in Belgravia on television. This will be an opportunity for me to properly absorb what I’ve watched since I get to watch it as many times as I want to now. This will be my pacifier for today while I knit. Oh, who am I kidding? I can’t knit when Sherlock is on! LOL

Speaking of knitting, I’m doing exceptionally well with that. After Sherlock, I’m going to pick those needles up and not put them down until I’ve gotten to the heel flap. I can’t reiterate how much I love these Knit Picks needles. I feel like I have a new lease on life. My shoulders are more relaxed, I’m not poking myself in the finger every five minutes with the super sharp tip of the Susan Bates needles, the yarn glifes easily across the needles and cable of the Knit Picks tools. Bliss.

Well, that’s about it. I’d better get to working out if I want to eat at 8:30, Today’s Monday, which means Knitting Daily and Closer to Truth, which means I’ll be glued to the television until 10:00am trying to learn something new. 🙂

Success is Forthcoming

I’ve lost my first ten pounds. Yay. This is a quote from 43things on my entry detailing what I do in a days worth of exercise.

After three weeks of exercising, I have finally lost a significant amount of weight. Ten pounds is gone. From a high of 260lbs, I am now 250lbs. This is with the benefit of one hour’s worth of exercise everyday. Today, I’m switching it up and adding on an additional thirty minutes of exercise to my regimen.

In no particular order, my exercises are as follows:

Fifty Push ups
Fifty Crunches
Fifty Leg lifts
Fifty Seated stretches (touching one set of toes at a time)
Fifty Seated Bows (leaning forward as far as possible)
Fifty Standing Toe touches
Fifty Side Knee bends (each leg)
Fifty Front Knee bends (Each Leg)
Fifty Squats
Fifty Side downward punches (each arm)
Thirty Five Arm lifts (each arm)
Arm Flexes (for the duration of two songs)
Hip flexes (for the duration of two songs)
March in place (for the duration of two songs)
Air punches (for the duration of one song)
Neck exercises (for the duration of one song
Jog in place/Leg flexes (for the duration of one song)
Air cross punch (for the duration of one song)

All this usually takes me an hour to do. Today, I’m going to switch it up and add some exercises from FitnessBlender to the mix in preparation of switching over to their regimen.

I’m finding that, in all this exercising, I want to do more at the end of it rather than just stop. I don’t know what that is and, if anyone could give me a clue, I’d be much obliged.

In other news, wow. I got my order of yarn and circular knitting needles from Knit Picks and that’s all I can say in response. They’re amazing! The yarn is soft, looks quite sturdy and is in absolutely breathtaking colors. I was meant to be on a yarn diet and only allowed to puchase quarterly but I went against my own rules and bought this stuff. I’m really glad I did too. In addition to the yarn being lovely, the two sets of circular knitting needles are perfect for knitting these socks. I made so much progress since switching. The Susan Bates needles are in my closet waiting for a day that will probably never come; a day when I’ll find a use for them.

To give you an idea of how good they are, it took me the better part of a month to get 50 rounds completed. I just did 10 rounds in the space of an hour last night. These socks are mine…and Keith’s. LOL

*singsong voice* I’ve got a new fanship/crush in Jérôme Pradon. When I say “new”, I actually mean it’s the rekindling of an old fanship/crush with the aid of the Internet. Thank goodness for YouTube. Prior to one play thirteen years ago, I hadn’t seen him in anything but remembered him from all that time ago for his stunning performance as Judas Iscariot in the Great Performances rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar. I am so buying it as soon as my DVD buying time comes around.

The Maternal Parental really enjoyed her birthday gifts. The microwave and turkey bites were a smashing success. 🙂

That’s about it for today. I’ll write more if more happens. Later. 🙂

Redrawing My Schedule FTW

My old schedule as formerly printed and pinned to my wall.

  • 5:00 – 7:00 Writing
  • 7:00 – 8:00 Exercise
  • 8:00 – 9:00 Shower/Breakfast
  • 9:00 – 10:00 Knitting Daily/Closer to Truth
  • 10:00 – 12:00 Mathematics
  • 10:00 – 13:00 Kindle Reading
  • 13:00 – 15:00 Science
  • 15:00 – 17:00 Cooking Shows
  • 17:00 – 19:00 Linguistics
  • 19:00 – 20:00 Internet
  • 20:00 – 21:00 Shower/Medication

I’ve cut my study blocks to one hour a piece, added in the Gardening and DIY Shows I look at on a daily basis during the week and added in a second for Knitting and Crocheting that I’m calling Crafting for short. Thankfully, Paint accepted the pasting job I did, so have at it. Believe me, I wasn’t going to key all that in. Shuja, you were right. A picture is worth a thousand words.

So now, all there is in this is to do it. I’m getting better at waking up early and I do my exercise everyday regardless of how I’m feeling. It’s just a question of getting the other things in there on a regular basis. As you can tell by this blogpost, I’m running late right now. It’s currently 7:57am and, despite waking up at 6:30am, I failed to do my exercises on time owing to my rearranging my schedule for next week. Now that I have my laptop back and it appears to be in working order, I’m going to start in on the FitnessBlender exercises by taking my laptop downstairs so I can do all that jumping around without caving the floor in or disturbing the neighbors.

Plus, with all that time for Crafting scheduled in, I should make quick work of these socks. 🙂

Yesterday was Independence Day here in the United States. All in all it was a nice, mostly quiet, holiday. There were a few drunks with fireworks though. That’s always a good combination. Yeah. Thankfully, they didn’t burn anything down in the process of their revelry or blow any bits off of themselves. At least, this year they didn’t. o_O

Last night, I spent my time saving my ears from the booming of the fireworks by watching the 2000 production of Jesus Christ Superstar. The chorus was particularly good at drowning out the drunks outside and muffling the loud sound of the fireworks going off. Mind you, I’d forgotten how big a crush I had on Jerome Pradon. Still do apparently. LOL I may look at it again tonight, not for JP, but because the drunks might set off more fireworks tonight in an effort to rid themselves of their illegal stash.

I got a little bit of knitting done yesterday. Very little. I hope to rectify this deficit today and everyday after until the socks are done. Then, I can get back to Villimarjatar. Remember that?
